The sun woke him up. He'd forgotten to close the drapes last night after spending time on the porch with his host. He rubbed sleep from his eyes and then lazily got out of bed. He had gone upstairs to change and freshen up after his call with Darius. He looked at himself in the mirror for a time and determined that he needed a shave. He methodically brushed the shaving cream on, and then pick up the razor. His hand shook. He couldn't do it. He let the razor slip onto the sink and braced himself against it. He didn't have time for this.

He made his way out the front door to head down to the guest house. He needed to let Kronos know what had happened. As he neared the walkway he saw Kronos coming up the hill.

"Hey Korda," he said cheerfully as Clyde chattered in his arms. When the expected reaction to the monkey didn't happen, he realized something was up and stopped walking. "Not too late for breakfast, am I?"

"Too late…" Perfect words for how he felt at that moment. His expression was grim. "The dread I felt when we spoke has come to pass." His cold eyes met Kronos'. "Aidan Hart has been killed along with Major Janson. It happened Sunday in up-state New York. I was just informed by Aidan's sister."

Shit! That wasn't what he expected to hear. He knew the two of them had been close. "I'm sorry," he said sincerely. "Killed? As in..." He drew his finger along his neck and as he did he saw Korda slowly nod. He looked down at Clyde. "Shit. I guess the vacation's over." Again Korda nodded slowly.
