I will be needing one for my Muslims in the West class--we're visiting a mosque. I suppose I could try making one, there's a fabric store on my way to DIS. I don't know how to tie a hijab, either, though...
Hey there! Sounds like a cool class - I'm taking something similar called Islam & the West: Cultural Encounters at CMC and so far I love it.
With headscarves, I guess it depends on how traditional the Muslims in the mosque you're going to are. When I wear one I just cover my head and chest, but more conservative Muslims also cover their necks in the hijab, which I think does require some specific way of tying it that I don't bother to do. As far as where to get one, you might find it easier to use a regular shawl - it'll do just fine, since a headscarf is basically a long, rectangular scrap of fabric, varying in size. This is not super culturally sensitive, but the way I figure, they'll understand.
If you have a better option, that might be more recommended.
