Leaving Kazu’s room Jun made his way down stairs, and saw Masaki was with Kazu in the living room telling him about a puppy that had come into the shop that he had called ‘Kazu’
“Because he’s just as adorable as you!” Masaki said and Kazu gave a smile, Jun sighed hoping that Kazu wouldn’t want a puppy, their apartment wasn’t big enough, and no matter how hard he tried animals just didn’t like Jun. “Ne, Kazu-chan, do you want to come into work with me later? You can meet Kazu” Kazu nodded slowly and Masaki smiled ruffling his hair the way he always had, Kazu accepted it without complaint, for some reason coming back here, even in the short amount of time that they had been here Kazu seemed to have forgotten the progress he had made while living in their apartment, maybe it was because being here reminded him of all the bullying he had suffered or maybe like him it was because everything was hammering home to them that they were brothers. Noting more than the photo’s above the fire place that had the words ‘Our boys’ written above them, Jun blinked when he realised that Kazu was standing in front of him, a concerned look on his face
“J-cha-n, are… Ar- you oka-y?” he asked and Jun nodded with a smile, as he sorted out the hair that Masaki had messed up.
“I’m fine, I was just thinking about work” He mumbled lying, knowing it was impossible to tell him the truth while their brothers were within earshot “You’re going to look at puppy’s ne?”
“Ye-ah” Kazu nodded slowly
“Just remember, Kazu… Nii, we can’t have one” He said almost forgetting to add the ‘Nii’ and Kazu gave a quicker nod
“Of… Course… I kno-w” He said rolling his eyes and Jun gave a laugh holding up his hands
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry” He said moving away before he did something stupid like kissing him in front of the others. Soon after Masaki and Kazu headed to the pet shop and Satoshi said something about dinner.
“Are there problems or anything?” Sho asked as they started preparing dinner
“None, everything’s fine, aniki, Kazu even has a job now, he works four days a week in a game/magic shop…Everybody loves him” Jun smiled
“He has a job?”
“Yep, he’s been working there for about 4 months”
“Why didn’t you tell anyone?”
“I thought Kazu-nii would have told Nii-chan, they talk nearly every day” Jun said looking Satoshi who shrugged looking a little baffled
“He normally just talks about what you and he do together… Jun, are you sure you don’t mind him staying with you? I mean you’re 21 now, surely you want to be seeing girls and having a life…”
“Are you trying to say that Kazu’s a burden?”
“No, nothing like that but it’s normal for you to want to have a girlfriend at your age, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever heard you even mention a girl…”
“Have you?” Jun snapped back coldly “I know Masaki-nii has had loads and aniki has had one or two… But I’ve never heard about you with a girl either Nii-chan…”
“True, I haven’t dated many girls, and none that I’ve liked enough to bring back here… But I’ve had some Jun” Satoshi said in his normal calm way, irritating Jun even more “For almost your whole life you’ve helped look after Kazu, Kazu would understand if you got a girlfriend he might even want a girlfriend…” Jun froze his blood running cold at that, the thought of his Kazu wanting a girlfriend cutting into him, over the last year, he had Kazu had been living as proper lovers, almost forgetting the truth and now it was being forced down his throat. There seemed to be more to it than that though and he had the sickening feeling in his stomach that they knew about his and Kazu’s secret and this was their way of warning him about it. He shook himself, trying to stay calm, telling himself that that was stupid, if they knew they wouldn’t be subtle about it he thought. Putting a smile on his face he looked at them
“I’m fine, Kazu-nii is no trouble… He’s doing better than he did here, everybody on our floor knows about him and are patient with him, even some of kids look out for him, and his employers are lovely…”
“But what about you, Jun?” Satoshi asked softly, and Jun sighed
“If it makes you feel any better I’m dating someone that I’m crazy about, okay?” he said at least it wasn’t a complete lie. Satoshi and Sho seemed to buy it at least and Sho smiled
“I’m glad, I mean at school you barely even noticed anyone else but Kazu” he said and Jun nodded slowly it was the truth after all.
6 years earlier.
“J!” Jun turned sharply ready to bite the head off of the person that had called him that, with suppressed sigh he saw a friend, Akanashi Jin, from the class below him running up to him a huge smile on his face
“Don’t call me J” Jun snapped, glaring at him only Kazu was allowed to call him by that nickname
“Sorry, no need to bite my head off!” Akanashi said holding up his hand defensively “There’s a party tonight with the guys by the river you in?”
“I can’t I’m going with Kazu…”
“With Kazu…” Akanashi said mimicking him with a sigh, “Jeez, Jun, he’s your brother not your girlfriend… Can’t he go anywhere by himself?” Jun’s eyes narrowed sharply about to say that Kazu could go by himself but he wanted to go with him, in fact it was his idea, Kazu didn’t even know about it yet. A magician that Kazu liked was going to be preforming at the restaurant on Main Street and Jun had been working none stop for months to be able to afford to take him. He could picture Kazu’s face lighting up and he wanted to see it so much “Come on, you never do anything fun, that girl from 3b with the big breasts is going to be there, you know she’s got a thing for you…” Jun had to stop himself from rolling his eyes at that, it wouldn’t matter to him if there were 50 girls waiting for him with big breasts that had a thing for him, he thought with a sigh, none of them would compare to Kazu smiling at him.
“Sorry I can’t” He said again and Akanashi sighed rolling his eyes before running off to bug someone else. Jun leant against the wall, for nearly a year he and Kazu had been doing their… Whatever was going on between them, and by some miracle they had managed to keep it a secret from the others. There had been a few near misses at night when they had been kissing and touching but nobody had noticed anything, though Jun found himself almost wishing they would sometimes, if they found out he could stop doing what he was doing. The family would just think he was sick, none of them would blame Kazu, he wouldn’t let them blame Kazu, he decided. Jun turned as the door he was waiting against opened and Kazu came out, the advisor smiled and bowed at Jun politely and Jun responded with a friendly smile of his own, “How did it go?” He asked as they turned to leave the school, and Kazu shrugged in a bored manor
“He… Sai-d I’m doing bett-er” He answered slowly swinging his bag so it scrapped across the floor until Jun held his hand to stop him putting it over his own shoulder. In the last year Jun had become taller, taller than Kazu at least and less people had been bothering them. When they got outside Jun led Kazu into town, Kazu didn’t seem surprised and Jun guessed that he thought they were just heading for ‘their’ spot. But instead Jun stopped him in front of the restaurant “J, wha-t are… We doing… Here?” Kazu asked in surprise looking up at the restaurant, his eyes then falling on the poster, his eyes widening “Are we… Going to watch that?” he asked looking up at him and Jun nodded with a smile before nervously chewing his lip,
“Do you want to?” He asked and Nino nodded quickly rocking backwards and forwards in his excitement, Jun was happy and that he had had a good idea.
“Can I help?” The head waiter asked looking at them coldly,
“Maiga Jun” Jun said keeping he tone level, the waiter checked the book and nodded
“Come with me,” He said leading them to the back
“Near the front!” Kazu said quickly tugging at Jun’s hand and the waiter looked at him with a raised eye brow, “I want to see!”
“Can we sit near the front please?” Jun asked, his voice clearly stating that if he refused he was prepared to argue if he refused at the waiter sighed and took them to the last table that was open near the stage. Kazu barely looked at his menu leaving Jun to order, while his eyes were glued to the stage the chair rocking while he waited when the lights dimmed he clapped his hands together, Jun couldn’t remember what tricks the magician did or how long it lasted, but he did know that Kazu’s face as the happiest he had ever seen it and it made the stupidly overpriced meal that he never touched worth it. After the show Jun pulled Kazu around the back and pulled out one of his school books running to the magician that was packing his car.
“Can I have your autograph, for my brother?” Jun asked and the magician looked at him with surprise and then looked at Kazu who was standing at a nervous distance watching excitedly
“Sure kid, he’s into magic?” The magician said giving a smile as he signed Kazu’s school book
“Yeah” Jun nodded “Thanks a lot”
“Anytime”
“There you go Kazu” Jun said and Kazu ran a finger over the name
“Th-a-nk-yo-u, J” He said giving him the biggest smile he had seen that night. Jun tugged him into an empty ally and kissed him lightly. The next day Kazu’s book had been thrown into the fountain by the girl with the big breasts from 3B, Jun saw red and for the only time in his life he hit a girl, slapping her hard across the face before storming out of the school and searching the hotels in town until he found the right one. The magician was surprised to find a panting teenager on his doorstep
“Pleas-e yo-u’re aut-ogra-ph…”
“I gave it to you…”
“It was ruined… Please” Jun panted and the magician made him explain what had happened
“Some people, here kid…” He said taking a pen and signing a napkin, before smiling and taking the wand he was using last night and handing it to him. “Here give your brother that”
“Thank-you… Thank-you very much” Jun gasped bowing repeatedly and then running home. Kazu was in his room staring at the ruined autograph his fingers running over the smudged writing “Kazu… Kazu I got you the autograph again, and he even gave you his wand” He said holding out the wand and napkin to him. Kazu looked at them and gave a smile putting them down on the bed and taking his hands
“I do-n’t ca-re abo-ut th-at…” Kazu said slowly and carefully “I car-e bec-au-se J, did tha-t for… Me… An-d I coul-dn’t lo-ok aft-er it…” Jun gave a laugh and pulled him into a hug “I’m…Sorry… I thi-nk… She… Reall-y lik-es J”
“I don’t care Kazu, as long as you stay with me… I don’t care about anyone else…”
