Fire rose up into the sky causing the watching Priest to shiver slightly. He stumbled into the flower bed he had been tending, pain surged into his body, as if ripping apart his cells. Looking up at the fiery sky he saw a magnificent dragon its wings black against the bright fire the deadly yellow eyes fixed on him. It came closer and the priest felt as if his life force was slipping away and then there was only deep blackness.
The priest gave a soft groan, from far away he could hear people talking to him but in front of him he could only see muddy water. Pushing himself up weakly he was surprised to find himself in a rice paddy much like the ones around the temple. One quick look told him though that he was far from home.
“Boy, you fell down? Are you sure you would not rather return to your temple?” A scratchy, almost growling voice asked coldly.
The priest flinched at the rough tone, in all 16 years of his life nobody had spoken to him like that before. He sat in the mud on his knees and looked around, surprised to see three men looking at him. The one that spoke had a mass of long curly hair the front had been scraped back into a small mound on the top of his head. He had almost feminine beautiful features that were only ruined by a scowl, but what caught the priest attention was his sharp prickly aura that was without question warning people away.
Another taller man with lighter brown hair stepped forwards, he had a huge gentle smile on his face. The priest couldn’t help but smile as he felt he gentle warming aura that was radiating from him, it felt like the rays of a summer sun.
“Kazu, are you okay?” Gentle aura said and the priest frowned ‘Kazu’ wasn’t a name he was familiar with, but he suspected that he would soon be using it. The third man was watching their interaction carefully as if judging the situation. Small circular glasses were perched on his nose and the satchel like bag at his side no doubt, full of books that even the priest wouldn’t understand. His aura wasn’t closed like the first but neither was eclipsing like the second, it was as watchful as the man it surrounded. Few people would be welcomed within its circle but those that were would be there for life.
“Kid, you can sit there staring for the rest of the day, but I suggest we try making it to the rest house before nightfall. The roads are too dangerous to travel at night” The rough aura said and the priest tried to stumble to his feet his feet catching in the thick mud.
The man with the rough aura, sighed and grabbed his hand pulling him to his feet, they were close, so close that the priest could see the tiny details of the others eyes, including strange beautiful warm flicks of colour that were strange for a human. One quick glance at his ears told him that he wasn’t human but one of the elven folk.
The priest was surprised, the elven folk never normally kept company with humans. He looked at the bright aura and the other confirming that they were both indeed human before looking back at the rough aura elf. There was something else strange in his eyes, it was as if he was used to this close proximity between them.
The priest blushed hotly wanting to turn away when the vision faded and he found himself in his bedroom surrounded by other holy men.
“Your holiness… You are recovered?” His guardian and second in command said seeing his eyes flutter open “Was it the dragon?”
“Yes, also there will be three men arriving soon, an elven warrior, a scholar and a simple good man… I will leave with them” The priest said calmly ignoring the startled whispers of those assembled to continue “When they arrive please bring them here…”
“Yes, your holiness”
