You are my tomorrow part 124

Ohno stared around what was left of his home. Loss of human life had been minimal but the castle itself seemed to beyond repair. The higher levels including his bedrooms and his wife’s suite were completely gone as were the kitchens and the bathing house. The only rooms that had been spared were Nino’s hospital and his own offices and his garden. The plants and flowers had stood proudly against the flames lapping at them and it felt like a cruel joke. A painting that he had been working on of Nino had survived though the edges were blackened. It wasn’t even a good picture just something that he had painted while Nino still hated him and he was envious of those that were given those smiles. He had wanted to paint something more than that but there might never be that chance and now he kept that painting close to him knowing that he would one day paint a better picture of his love when he brought him home from Matsumoto.

He had meant to go in search of him sooner but harsh weather blocked the mountain path and there would have been no chance of survival if he had gone through the forests in such weather. He knew…Or rather he hoped that Matsumoto would keep Nino alive as a healer and he hoped that Nino would play along with them and not fight back. Matsumoto’s second Akaike was the weakest link and the most dangerous part that he had to think about. The man wasn’t a soldier he was a butcher. He enjoyed killing and he would be the first to run a blade over Nino’s throat if he thought that he would too much trouble.

“Satoshi…Are you ready? It is several days ride to Matsumoto castle…” Jun asked rousing him from his thoughts of the last time he had seen Akaike in battle. The man had been relentless and had even hacked down his own men if he believed that they were slowing them down. Nino would stand no chance with a man like that and he hoped that Matsumoto found his lover amusing enough to keep alive as he was the only person that Akaike might listen to as they had formed a twisted friendship over their years together.

“…I do not believe that they are at Matsumoto castle…” He said motioning to the reports that he had had coming in from his spies in the area. “They would not have made it that far without hitting the storm that cut us off here…”

“…The winter castle?” Jun asked with a hum coming to the table that he had set up with maps and reports and Ohno nodded. It had been his first thought when he realised that there would have been no time for them to get back to Matsumoto castle “My brother cared little for it but it is only a day’s ride at most…We can be there in just a few hours…We will get him home, my lord…”

“…And…If he has already been broken?” Ohno asked not wanting to think about the other horrors that could have befallen his lover in his time with Matsumoto and Akaike.

“I doubt that my lord…My brother and his men did not know what they were letting themselves in for when they captured your lover my lord…” Jun chuckled tapping him on his shoulder “Let us go and bring him home…”
