The bar at the stadium was full to the point of actually teeming but Satoshi found that it made his frayed nerves more strained. He couldn’t remember the last time that he had been out for anything that wasn’t something to do with his wife’s work and he looked nervously around feeling a little like a loose end. He wanted to get the drink he had promised himself but the crowds were rather daunting and he lacked the confidence to try and gain the attention of the keeper who already looked like he had enough on his plate. He was early for the performance and had naïvely thought that it wouldn’t be well attended. Much less by such a young crowd.
By a miracle of chance, he managed to find himself a stool against a window which over looked the stage and he was surprised to see that from his position he could see the dancers stretching out their bodies. He had once studied ballet himself when he was a child and he watched almost enviously at the flexibility of those on the stage wondering when the last time he had been able to touch his toes was
.
There was a small commotion at the far said of the bar but when he looked up he couldn’t see what it was. He chewed on the inside of his cheek and then contemplated looking at his phone for a bit but he got the impression that if he did it would look as though he had been stood up on a date and he really didn’t want to see if his wife had called. His daughter wouldn’t be calling until at least after nine as she was working part time to help pay for her education
“Here, you’d have been waiting ages for a drink” A voice said brightly handing over a glass of beer and Satoshi looked up expecting to see a waiter of some kind but was instead presented with somebody in jeans and a t-shirt. His hair was a sooty black colour that was slightly too long to be called neat and his skin was pale though his cheeks appeared to be highlighted by a dusting of yellow and blue glitter and Satoshi was sure that he was also wearing lipstick. Nothing to bright but enough to stain his lips a salmon pink colour. The boy was beautiful and could have been called fragile looking if there wasn’t an almost predatory smirk playing on his lips. Not knowing what to do or say he stared at the man and the offered drink with what was probably a stupefied expression on his face “You can take it you know, I promise that it’s not been poisoned”
“Right…Um…Thank-you” Satoshi breathed taking the drink and jolting with some surprise when his fingers brushed against the other man’s. The smirk grew stronger for a minute and Satoshi tried his best to remember that he was a married man and shouldn’t be at all interested in somebody’s smirk. Trying his best to ignore the weird feeling that had easily replaced his nerves he sipped at the drink glad that it soothed his somewhat dry throat.
“Nino! Get your butt back here!” A voice called and the boy, Nino, flinched for just a moment, while the eyes of the people in the bar turned to look at them. Nino rolled his eyes just a little bit and then straightened his back out running his fingers through his hair as he muttered;
“Oops that’s me, gotta go”
“Um…Thanks, for the drink” Satoshi said waving the glass and Nino gave him a smile and something that could be described as a wink saying;
“See you later old man, I might see you after the show”
Nino darted back through the crowds becoming almost immediately lost in the swirl of people and Satoshi blinked slowly sipping his drink before looking back through the window noting that the dancers had all gone now. He tried his best not to think about the young man his eyes focused on the ring shining on his finger but he couldn’t deny that he felt a little happier than he had done in weeks. Even if he was being incredibly stupid.
