I think that true love is something that takes years and years to build. I do not believe in "love at first sight," although I sure do believe in intense infatuation at first glance. :)
I would not want true love without lust, in a marraige sense. I think that lust is very important in a relationship. I also think that lust is a natural response that can give way to love.
I do not think that being in love requires lust first. I have heard of many people falling in love after being friends for a long time, with no plans to expand on the relationship. I have also known people to dive headfirst into a lusty relationship and have love bloom out of that. So, I think it depends on the person. :)
But what is "true love"?hoggwildJuly 19 2004, 15:23:28 UTC
Is there really such a thing? Or is it just a literary concept, ingrained so long in our culture by now that we believe it to be as real, as concrete a thing as daisies and snowflakes? By "true love" do you mean the one with whom you are fated to be, by some kind of destiny? Or do you mean some kind of soulmate? And what is a soulmate? And is there such a thing as that?
Me personally, I have given up trying to figure these things out. I think there's such a thing as chemistry, and there's such a thing as deep affection, and there's such a thing as irresistable romantic attraction, for I have personally experienced all these things. But I don't know where true love fits in all of that. And I cheerfully don't need to know. Let life surprise me.
