I was thinking about my dad and my mother-in-law yesterday. My father has been gone for almost 10 years. My mother-in-law just passed in February. Thinking of them is probably what prompted me to go out in this direction. Thank you for reading!

I wonder if every line is addressed in the now, like she's realizing it all in the line. Definitely heartbreaking and meshes pretty well with the whole "missing staircase step" feeling of loss that I've become familiar with.

Such a poignant end. I thought you had it set up for her love to die during the day, but you wrote a great twist for the end. Great job.
