The biggest thing you can do is format and reinstall stuff on your system (assuming you can back up your important files). Over time, you system picks up a LOT of little files and entries in the registry. Even if you uninstall and delete programs, these little things stay. If your computer is over 18 months old, you can SIGNIFICANTLY improve performance by doing this. I try to do it every six months. It just takes some time. This isn't too hard to do--you need your Windows CD, your application install files/CDs, and a CD with your drivers ready to load your hardware on reinstall. If you want to give it a go, I can give you more info.
Alternatively, look for any program you don't need any more and uninstall them. Be careful of any unknown icons--you may have extra stuff in memory that you don't even need. Also, check to see if there is a newer version of your video drivers from NVidia. It's quite common that they will release new versions monthly or bi-monthly, increasing performance by quite a bit over time, without changing the
I actually just reformatted this computer after i acquired it from a friend (in December), so it should be pretty clean. But i will check out the land of drivers....thanks!
