I've hurt myself in the past, but I've never seen anything that bad. When I do it, I'm exerting a control over my body - I can't control my life, but I can self-wound myself in a very specific way. I can come close to seeing how bad it can be, and back off.

As for him, he's a lot closer. I'm not sure what to do except to show him where he can better his life and stay close to him. He's in danger, but you knew that.

Its very useful to know the mentality of the person that you are trying to help. I've never had any experience of this in my life at all, so knowing why other people do it is a great help.

I gave him a phone call last night, and I'm going to write about it later today.

my gf used to harm herself (but nothing like your friend) and I used to sit her down and ask her why? why she did it to herself? but more importantly, why was she being selfish with regards to her parents, friends, or maybe me? making them understand the consequences seems to be a greater solution to making them realise the action. They *know* they're self-harming, that's what they're thriving upon, but when you sit them down and point out they're harming others, then perhaps they realise its more than "self ( ... )

Cheers Stu,

I'm going to write about what I spoke to him about last night, later today - but thanks for your $.02, it was more like $2 anyway ;-)

Keith (BTW - WTF does 1377 mean? Sorry to be dense - but at 25 I feel I aught to know this)

I know what you mean - I don't think he's quite gotten to the stage of G yet, having read your journal.. but certainly, as addictive as watching a car crash (as the phrase goes).. Only, this time I want to try and help prevent the big crash at the end.

My hope is that he'll realise that he's got loads of people who care about him and he'll pull out of this nose dive that he's in.

From what you wrote, G seemed to hit the nut low just before you did - only he was seeking attention, and you weren't. :-(

Keith (Sometimes these brackets are less of a blessing, and more of a curse)
