First off (((hugs))). I don't think you've wasted your time. I think it is unfortunate that no one is doing web related stuff at UCF, and that we don't have a decent HCI class. I think it is certainly possible for you to pull through and pursue what interests you. I'm sure you've built a solid background of work, and the skills you are learning and using can be applied to other areas even if you have not done as much in them. Do a dissertation that you are going to enjoy (well...you'll enjoy it up until the end when you will hate it).

and I've been asked that question for the past 8 years.
Now I have an answer.. I don't know why.
I wouldn't say you've wasted your dreams. Just got to make something of it more than what you have there. :S
