Thing is, it's going to have to tip further than that and replace either LJ or Facebook as my online pubmeets of choice. Even virtually, it would appear I can only be in so many places at once.

Only having a subsection of the people I would want to wave with is also a problem. I'm not betting my shirt on it.

I do find it mesmerising watching people typing in a wave. It's the way their name moves ahead of their words like a big orange bus. Magic.

It's outside our intranet so not for business use, sadly. It does lool like it would be quite handy for collaborating, now I've had a flail at it with various friends contributing to waves.

Mostly hype, but partly a kind of Instant Messenger/Bulletin Board/Blog/Wiki hybrid. You can use it to message people, but they can reply from anywhere in the text, paste in links, call other people in. You can wind the waves back and replay them. Allows multithreaded conversations and tangents to meander without losing the original context.

Its been released into the wild for beta testing, so some people have access and some don't. I'm not convinced this is a great plan, as a lot of the value of this will come when most of the people you would want to interact with in this way have access to the system.
