I must say, I enjoyed your account more than the actual finale, though it was a fitting end. I was glad they didn't get canned along with the majority of the WB's lineup last year, the Gilmores needed this final season (on the other hand, 7th Heaven certainly did not).

I didn't know you were a Gilmore watcher! And you're right, I think they ended it pretty well...it had already peaked, and I think a 13-episode 8th half-season like they were throwing around would've just been too much.
