New Year's Eve Kiddies!!!!

So I was just thinking about "New Years Eve." Shouln't there be an apostrophe? ("New Year's Eve")? It's just one year right? So why the 's' on the end of year? It obviously cannot be the eve of every new year b/c it's only one day. So apparently we are personifying the Year by adding an 's' b/c it simply cannot be any other way. most things, at least official things, spell it correctly as "year's." i know Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve does.
