Challenging....

I have accepted that Law School is going to be academically challenging - that I will work until the wee hours of the morning and still not get it all done, that I will have created the equivalent of several books worth of notes from my classes, and that I will still not get the grades I'm used to (only two of which I even know!). There is a difference between desensitizing yourself and learning how to distance yourself. My mom has worked in the ER for over 35 years and has seen every kind of horrific injury there is to see. If she didn't learn how to distance herself, she would be useless to her patients. That does not mean, however, that she is desensitized. Horrible accidents still bother her like they always have.

Yeah, I suppose that's true. I think I have a problem with the way my professor is so cold and clinical about it all (and even makes jokes)! I think that it would have been OK if before we began talking about homicides she had given us a 'come to Jesus' talk or some sort of pep talk about how to handle it. It's just odd. I always leave that class feeling unsatisfied and uneasy.
