I had a little time tonight that I didn't anticipate, so I did a little writing to give my fingers a break from embroidery. A couple people have asked me over the past few months about directional knife pleating, so I put together a mini how-to on the Theatrical~Historical blog.

Thanks! I remember finishing tacking the pleats down, taking a step back, and going, "...wow! That looks way cooler than I thought it would!" ;)

Haven't read the article yet, but I am in awe with our control of the various stripes in that outfit!

Thank you! It was fun to make...I actually really enjoyed working with the large pattern. It almost made it easier, 'cause I could tell right away if I did something wrong.

I love directional pleats - but the fact that you managed to get those pleats to look like that rocks. (why did the one plaid dress I did have the hem cut from the bottome????? oh pictures, you ruin my pleating dreams)

I love them too; used them on my ballgown, but it doesn't look nearly as impressive with a plain color!

You'll just have to make another plaid dress then...right? ;)

oh yes, sometime after the 1910 period I'm in love with and I have a falling out, and well, then there is the gala dress..... but yep, I know I have more plaids at my house - including a gauzy red, white, and blue plaid that is destined for a rockin' fan front!

Those are some sharp lookin' pleats! What a gorgeous dress and a gorgeous picture (and a gorgeous seamstress).

If you and I weren't so different in height, I'd come to MI, break in, and totally steal that dress.

I mean, whut? Pretty. :D
