Embroidery, Day 7.

Feb 21, 2010 12:16

I took a large break in the middle of the week, for health concerns unrelated to embroidery (my hands are fine, I promise), but I did finish a sleeve last night!

That looks good. Could you iron it with a terry towel over it? That would absorb the excess water, wouldn't it? And in a question related to my sewing....I'm using the casa "silk" for the dress. Should I line it?

Thank you! A pressing cloth is a good idea, and a towel would definitely be absorbent...and probably wouldn't crush the embroidery.

I usually line all my bodices and don't line any of my skirts. That's my rule of thumb, but your mileage may vary! :)

Beautiful! You have much nicer embroidery skills than I!

(I secretly want to make the skirt you see paired with that red striped KCI jacket. :-) )

Oh, haha, miss Leia Bespin robe. Nicer embroidery my foot! ;) I've got to admit, projects like that of yours, and Katherine's embroidered regency dresses are what make me inspired to do this--so you get some credit for this madness, ma'am! ;)

I think you should make it. It'd be gorgeous! And it's kind of nice to have a handwork project to work on...though I find myself yearning for some actual construction now that I'm making progress on the embroidery!

The Bespin embroidery wasn't so much filling things in as outlining them - and don't look too closely at it! LOL

Actually, my Padme picnic corset is probably nicer - but didn't take nearly as long! :-)

Glad to help inspire you in the madness. Bespin took me 9 months - hopefully this won't take you as long! :-)

Maybe I'll think about doing that skirt sometime! :-)

Pretty! What stitches are you using? Also, what kind of thread are you using, DMC or something special?

As for ironing fears, how about hanging the finished cloth in your bathroom for a few days? That way the steam from the shower might relax the fabric a little.

Thanks! I'm using stem stitches, satin stitch, bullion knots, french knots, and backstitch with the silver thread--weaving another strand of silver in and out through the backstitch to tie it all together. Kind of like backwards couching, I guess. It's all just DMC floss, since I have a time limit and don't want to get caught out having to order more thread at the last minute.

Hanging it in the bathroom is a great idea! I may try that before I break out the iron, just to see. :D Thanks!

Beautiful! But you are crazy for embroidering all of that, you know. Just kidding. ;) It's going to look so lovely finished!

Nah, I'm pretty sure I'm crazy. If only sleeves didn't come in pairs! ;)
