Rob talked to 3 different transmission shops and they gave prices right around 2400-3000 to rebuild the transmission so we'd be pretty much in the same boat elsewhere...
If we do decide to repair, it certainly won't be at the Honda dealer. They are crooks, if you ask me. When the first transmission died, they were ready to charge us for it, luckily I had researched online a bit so I asked "Wouldn't that be covered by the recall?" and suddenly they were able to "work it out." I'm sure if I hadn't brought it up, they'd have been happy to rip us off by charging us for a covered repair.
3 years/36k warranty. We're beyond that. But still, a transmission should last well over 55k warranty or not. I've driven cars into the 200k range on original trannies.
We've already filed an appeal with American Honda Motor Co., (the manufacturer rather than the dealership), to have them review the case and hopefully agree to do a 'goodwill' repair. But we're at their mercy, and stuck in limbo paying for a rental car until they make up their minds.
