Teleport would be so awesome at this point in my life. I could just teleport to the mine where my experiment is instead of spending 3.5 hours in the car each way!

yipes! i had no idea you were that far away from it! i've been spending my car trips trying to learn chinese and listening to educationalish podcasts, so it doesn't feel entirely like time wasted... but even so, too much time in the car makes me feel physically yucky. does the experiment's funding reimburse you for all the gasoline?

Oh yes...well we usually get a rental as my car is in no state to be trusted for long-ish trips anymore. It's actually only about 3 hours to Blacksburg, where we have to stop and get the pickup truck we drive inside the mine, and then another half-hour to the mine.

The worst part is that if I'm with my advisor we run out of things to talk about and then it's silence. I feel uncomfortable/rude listening to my mp3 player on my own. My new tactic to be tried on the next trip is to download some podcasts from NPR (Wait Wait Don't Tell Me, Car Talk, This American Life) and play them in the car if it has an auxiliary input.

Teleport seems like the obvious choice to me. Flying seems like the poor man's teleport. Unless there are weird limitations or catches.

If I had to choose between the three, and flying could be done super fast, or super slow, I'd choose flying. If speed was constant (and not very fast) I'd choose teleporting ( ... )
