Thoughts?

I wrote this for a class. It's supposed to be for people who don't study the stuff we're studying (New Media, Memory & The Archive) and will be linked to The Record exhibit at the Nasher at some point. Any opinions on it would be appreciated~

A most interesting topic, and great insights. The whole idea of history being a construct of the present, based on what we do and don't have from the past, and of the presence or absence of records determining the historical narratives we construct, believe in, and pass on, is a very interesting one ( ... )

Yes, thank you for this! I'm actually arguing against the reification of the record/archive, although I don't think I really make that clear at all. Race and gender were only really brought up as an example to illustrate the larger point I'm trying to make which is about the potential of art to bring up memories that have been seemingly forgotten or left out of archives/historical records. It is certainly not the most organized thing I've ever written, which I think is the main drawback, but that sort of has to do with time restrictions.

The idea behind all of this is to bring in concepts from the things we've been reading in a way that is understandable to people outside of our field of study. I think it ended up being more of a hodgepodge of disorganized impressions, though.

Well, it may be a bit hodgepodgey, and disorganized, but I think you can tighten it up, focus a bit more, and it'll be great.

I was just recently applying for some grants where I had to write an abstract aimed for the non-specialist. It's hard!! Ganbatte!!

I love it! It may be because I know you, but I also can see places where you have amused yourself.

"We are not haunted by that which has no relevance anymore. Ghosts only linger on Earth if they have some unfulfilled wish or desire. They are often thought of as being located in sites where traumatic events occurred. They are spirits that have not been laid to rest yet. If they had nothing to remember, they would cease to exist. Thinking of this from the other direction, if we had no reason to remember them, they would cease to exist."

YOU'RE ALREADY DEAD

Anyways yes I can read it. However, as Dave said, holy shit are those words.

There's some I don't entirely understand because I am stupid. HOWEVER. Even I can understand that each paragraph is another idea representing loss, and their continued life through death and the power they posses BECAUSE they are obsolete.

What is a mode in this context?
