How does your garden grow?

Well, it's May in Florida.  So the garden is coming along well.  Lots of interesting plants and flowers...and the butterfly garden is in bloom and attracting butterflies!  Alas, I didn't have a good camera with me when I saw an owl butterfly last week.  I'll try to keep it near the door so I can grab if needed.

Here are some of the plants that I  ( Read more... )

What a pretty deer! :)

I love how your garden is shaping up! I need to nick some ideas for plants that survive in Florida, all I know is Michigan gardening. Despite the landscapers purposely poisoning plants I still want to give it a go. :D

The cool thing is if you go to nuseries or home improvement centers...lots of them have lists of recommendations for things that grow natively...or grow well in our climate :)

Dusty Miller is the white leafed plant...it doesn't need much water and loves hot sun. Same is true of moss roses. :)

I can't go into nurseries, I'll spend money on plants I have no home for yet! ;D We had a nice little herb garden at one of our previous apartments, but it had a decent amount of shade. I definitely need to find stuff that does well in the hot sun; we're in an end unit of a townhouse with our garden on the east/south-facing parts of the buildings. So far the only plant I've actually purchased is a Confederate jasmine- one of my favorite plants! I really do like the Dusty Miller too, it's very pretty.

We've been keeping our eyes peeled at the Jax zoo, too; it's got some great garden areas with stuff that seems to thrive pretty well in our climate. We wanted at one point to get a bunch of dark-leafed plants to create a "garden of darkness" but I don't think our HOA would approve. ;)

Sorry for the rambling! I just miss gardening! :D

Nice pictures!
I can't take any right now... still too cold for anything other than grass and weeds to grow much. That and the fountain still needs cleaning.

You have quite the green thumb, Kuddlepup! :-)

I do have a question about the deer...have you had many problems with animals dining on what you grow? I know that's a big problem for those of us in Ohio who are active gardeners.

Not at all. The deer tend to stay away from the house itself. They like the vacant lot next door, and they like grazing at the very back of the back yard near the woods.

I do think that an armadillo got to my cyclamen plants though.
