One of my in-laws posted some pithy idiotic anti-abortion thing on facebook and ordinarily I would just ignore it but today I heard that the bill supported by that awful Georgia Rep* passed (though it was a "compromise" that did allow termination of non-viable fetuses) and being silent feels too much like agreement ( Read more... )

I find that being pregnant while these debates go on make me even more pro-choice than I was before...the Georgia nonsense is really beyond the pale though. Comparing women to farm animals? Anyone who doesn't believe that there is a war on women's health right now hasn't been reading much news.

UGH.

I agree that having been pregnant makes me more pro-choice than I was before. I can't imagine forcing someone to go through what I went through the past 10 months if they don't want a child. I have a whole new respect for women who give their children to loving families for adoption or choose to be surrogates.
I also have relatives (most of them blood) whose posts I almost need to hide on facebook due to the anger it causes me to be compared to animals. Great analogy and restraint!

Pregnancy did more to solidify my pro-choice stance than any other experience, because damn forcing someone to go through that is not cool!

Great response! You handed the situation with far tact than I probably would have.
