Oh, lordy. Where to begin? Somewhere between 10:30 and 11:00 last night, I was sitting on my folk's couch watching the Red Sox game when Gavin called me. Our friend Jess was pretty sure her dog Lucy was going into labor, one week early. I called Jess and Lucy was displaying some of the symptoms- but her temperature had yet to drop the couple ( Read more... )

I'd agreed a number of weeks ago to help my friend with the whelping because she'd never done it before and I have....and when her husband had to go out of town sort of suddenly and she found herself alone with her infant daughter and her dog in labor I wanted to do what I could to help. My mistake was not calling Gavin's parent's to double check that I could take car, because I didn't want to wake them, I guess they knew it was having problems and I wound up having to wake them up at 2 something in the morning to see if they could intervene with AAA. Basically, I was trying to do the right thing for my friend.

you are a puppy midwife! (i don't know what whelping is. it's a good thing i don't have a pregnant doggie.) aw, i'm sorry you got into trouble trying to help your friend. and i am a lil freaked out by your AAA experience! my mom swears up and down by them, but the way they treated you sounds pretty predatory. (waiting until you were totally stranded and demanding that you join then & there even tho you were driving a member's car???)

That so sounds like a situation I would find myself in. Glad you ladies didn't freeze! Yikes!

I was actually thinking about your live journal post about getting lost in the woods- while we were up there. I should've been way more prepared- I'm going to take steps to make my backpack more winter emergency ready now!

It was pretty scary....my hands and feet have been aching since we got picked up and I'm just really grateful we didn't have to spend any more time out there. Cars and I just don't get along, I guess.

Talk about adding insult to injury:
I left my wallet in Jess's car- which is now an hour plus away.

AWESOME.
