Come now, to admit he's worried would be to bring in the tiniest bit of doubt. That would never do because the way to stay popular in America is to always appear confident, especially if you're clearly screwed up.

This is, of course, why liberals are so hard to elect: we are at least capable of entertaining the fact that we might be wrong because we've arrived at our conclusions through actual examination of the issues instead of simple--and often quite blind--faith.

If we actually *examine* issues and come up with logical thoughts, then we might accidentally discover that humans evolved over millions of years instead of one day *poof*, two naked folks in the Garden of Eden. If that happened, all hell would break loose!
