Get a Viking, baby! I have an emerald 116, and it is lovely. All the innards are metal vs. plastic, and although it is a 'lower end' Viking, it sews through 3 layers of leather pretty well.

Seconding Viking. I have Huskystar 219 and it's a beast when it comes to cosplay. I used it to sew my Misato cosplay and it tackled 4 layers of vinyl. Seriously WIN sewing machines.

My second machine that I bought came from Super Target, they actually have a pretty decent selection of machines. You should totally get the Project Runway machine that they sell in Wal-Mart. I like the first one you linked.

Oh and I have been meaning to ask if either you or your sister know how to sew gloves. I need a pair for my Jill costume and I have no clue how to make them, let alone out of stretchy fabric.

Alright, you know I'm not gonna have anything interesting to say about this lol. Uh... needle and thread ftw.
