The more I suspect that 90% of the cast are not viable.

I thought Internet Opinion generally held that the opposite is true.

/has played maybe like 30min of MVC3 tops.

I'm not sure about internet consensus. I could be completely wrong. It just seems like there are certain characters that have nearly every important attribute for the game, whereas most characters just have a few of them.

It seems like there are characters that have good mobility, zoning, and close attacks, and then there are characters that can only do one or two, and the second group of characters aren't overwhelmingly better at the ones they have than the characters that can do it all.

Sentinel is a prime example of what I'm talking about. Did one character really need the best zoning in the game, the second best zoning assist in the game, the best hp in the game, great damage, and attacks with armor so that he still has priority over faster characters at close range?

Sentinel sucks against other zoners and against rushdown. His damage is absolutely outrageous sometimes and his assist is super strong, but he's not the best character. Not to say he's not hugely annoying to fight over and over.

This would be in line with MvC2, yes?

I don't think it's as bad as MvC2. I am probably exaggerating quite a bit, and also I probably don't know what the hell I'm talking about.

It seems to me like every team is going to be evaluated in terms of its ability to beat extreme pindown teams like magneto/doom/sent. If you don't have an answer to that, go home.

Yeah, that's something I don't really like about the game. It seems like some teams that should be interesting are auto-disqualified because pindown is so easy and good.

For example, if you wanted to make a team of a battery and two heavy hitters, you will simply lose. And while that isn't the kind of team that I would want to play, it seems to me like the kind of team that should be able to be in the game.
