Chapter 2

“Well, go open the door,” Massu said.

“Koyama went reluctantly. Sakurako was there, wearing a green flowy skirt and a light yellow peasant blouse with her hair tied up in a messy bun and she was carrying a huge red bag. She smiled at him and kissed him on the cheek and then she went in uninvited.

She removed her shoes and stopped when she saw all the people in his apartment.

“Are you having a party? It’s a little early, isn’t it? Hello, everybody.”

“Hello,” was the chorus response.

“Ah, hi, Tegoshi-kun. Oh and I know you too… Ma… Masuda-kun, right? From the group date, right?” Massu nodded and waved hello. “I’m so glad I listened to my friend and went to that date! I don’t think I know the rest of you…” Lara came out from behind Yamapi with a frown. Sakurako saw her and opened her eyes wide. “Is… is that you?”

“Sakurako? Sakura girl??”

“Oh, my god, Lara Croft!” The woman squealed and went to hug Lara. They were both squealing and talking really fast in high pitch voices.

“How are you?”

“Oh, my god I can’t believe it. I haven’t seen you in so long!”

They went on until a couple of the guys coughed… loudly.

They both turned around. “Sorry,” both said at the same time.

“Sakura girl?”Tegoshi asked looking confused.

“And Lara Croft? Like the game?” Ryo asked and then smirk. “She was hot too.”

Lara ignored Ryo’s last sentence. “I used to call her Sakura girl and my last name is Ward, but she started calling me Lara Croft.”

“My little brother had a crush on Lara Croft.”

“I just can’t believe she’s the screa…” Lara caught herself.

“What?” Sakurako asked confused.

“No, I can’t believe you are here.”

“You two know each other?” Massu asked.

“Yes, when I came here I went on with my dancing classes and I even got a job in a couple of shows. Sakurako was one of my classmates and colleague. We got really close the first year I was here.” Lara explained.

“And you were amazing! You even started teaching to the children at the studio. And then one day you just quit and left. You promised you’d keep in touch,” Sakurako pouted.

“I know. I’m sorry. When Tackey got his job here I… lost contact.”

Sakurako narrowed her eyes and looked at the men. “I only saw him a couple of times, but I don’t think your husband is any of these men.”

“No. Umh… he… left… me. He left me several months ago.”

“Oh, good. I never really liked him. I’m sorry, but the couple of times I saw him I didn’t like him.”

“We never met him and we are not crazy about him,” Yamapi murmured.

Sakurako nodded. “So tell me, what have you been up to? Apart from being surrounded by good looking men including my Koyama-kun.”

“I’m not your Koyama-kun.” Koyama disagreed with a frown.

“Aw, you will be. It was written in the stars. I checked. But we can talk about it later.”

The woman was crazy, Koyama though. Why did crazy women keep finding him?

“You are still into that? Astrology and divination?”

“Of course. Now tell me, how did you end up surrounded by gorgeous men in this apartment?”

“Um, girls, we are going to go to our apartments and take a shower and change,” Yamapi interrupted.

“Yeah, but we’ll be back to go shopping,” Tegoshi said with a wide smile and the rest nodded. “So don’t start without us!”

She promised and they were gone. Koyama also grumbled something about his house being invaded and taking a shower as well. And she was left there with the other woman looking at her expectantly.

Lara didn’t really want to repeat the humiliation of telling the whole story, but she needed all the friends she could get on her side. If telling the story got the other woman on her side. She took a deep breath and told her what happened, her living under the sink and the guys finding her and the plan to get her a visa so she could stay legally in Japan.

The other woman stared at her wide eyed. Okay, maybe it was a mistake to tell her.

“Oh my God!” The other woman exclaimed and held Lara in a bear hug. “Honey, why didn’t you call me? You had my cell phone.”

“Well, most of my friends were his and when I called, well, they weren’t mean, but they weren’t exactly warm either. And I hadn’t seen you in so long… I didn’t know…”

“And… you were under the sink… in the kitchen… even when I was… here…”

Lara looked down, not really knowing what to say.

“Oh, it’s okay,” Sakurako went on, saving them both from embarrassment. “And I’m totally on board with the plan. And I wish I could offer you my home, but I rent out a room in a house. No guests allowed.”

“And you are okay with me living with Koyama?”

“Oh, yes. Like I said we are destined and nothing can stand in the way of destiny. I trust you.”

At that point Koyama came out of the room with fresh clothes and his hair still wet from the shower.

“Oh, Koyama-kun. You are so generous, letting her live here!”

Koyama snorted but said nothing. He couldn’t believe he was spending his day off with a squatter and a one night stand he wanted to get rid of. A little voice in his head asked 'then why are you doing it?' Annoying little voice. He was doing it because of peer pressure. His friends seemed to like the woman; of course they didn’t have to share their apartment with her.

“So, we are all going to buy you clothes right?” Sakurako asked looking at both of them.

“Ah! I have no shoes,” Lara realized.

“You threw her shoes too?”

“I didn’t know she was living here! She is the one to blame here. She is the one who was living here without me knowing. I didn’t know!”

Both women stared at him.

“Sorry,” Lara said and at the same time Sakurako sentenced:

“Are you always this crabby?”

“Yes,” he growled.

“We have to change that if us is going to work. We’ll talk about it.”

“No! There is no us. Sorry if you got the wrong impression but there is no us. Jesus!”

“Lara,” Sakurako said ignoring Koyama. The stars said they were destined to be together and they would. “Don’t worry about the shoes.” She grabbed her bag and started taking things out of it. A deck of cards, papers, pens… a salt pot? Finally she took out a pair of bright pink flats. “They might be a little big, but they’ll do.”

The other two were looking at her wide eyed.

“Why would you take all that in your purse?”

“For emergencies, like this.”

“You find yourself in this kind of emergencies often?”

“Well, maybe not exactly like this,” Sakurako conceded. Boy, was she gonna need patience the rest of her life with him. Well, he was handsome, that had to help. He wasn’t bad in bed, at all, but she wouldn’t have thought him anything more than a one night stand. The cards and charts and psychics all agreed: her destiny was a man in a uniform than worked up in the sky. Also their numerology worked perfect together, they were both six. It made cosmic sense and he would see how they complemented each other.

Yamashita was in his apartment. He had just taken a shower and gotten dressed. He had talked to her earlier that morning and still he reached for his cell phone. He wanted to hear her voice again. He knew he shouldn’t, she wanted to be just friends and he didn’t want to be so clingy. He could end up driving her away.

He called anyway.

“Hey, you,” she answered. She had caller ID so she always knew who it was. Yamapi thought that might be good, she was still answering his calls and she didn’t seem annoyed.

“Hi. Sorry to bother you.”

She giggled. “You are never a bother Yamapi,” He loved to hear his nickname on her lips. What he wouldn’t give to hear her say his name.

“Um, I… I was wondering if we could meet.” Silence. “It’s just that I need a favor.” He was thinking fast. “It’s not for me. It’s for a friend. She… she needs help, and you might be able to help her.”

“Her?” She asked. Was she mad? Disappointed?

He hurried to explain. “It’s not like that, she not my…”

“Yamapi, it’s fine. You don’t have to explain. It’s perfectly fine if you have a girlfriend. I nice guy like you should have a nice girlfriend.”

You are nice, Yamapi almost said but held it back.

“She’s not my girlfriend, just a friend. Can we meet so I can explain?”

She didn’t answer at first. “Okay.” She finally said.

After they hang up, Yamapi sent a message to Ryo saying to go ahead without him.

Now Lara was in a dressing room and she was not planning to get out anytime soon. Each of them kept choosing her clothes and she really couldn’t complain since she couldn’t pay for any of it.

Well, not all of them. Koyama just sat on a little bench and that was it.

She had modeled for the small crowd that had come in the shop with her. She had started with a flowy purple skirt with a red blouse and espadrilles with a colorful flowery pattern chosen by Sakurako. Nobody had liked it, although she hadn’t said anything so as not to offend the girl.

Next, came Massu’s choice, which was surprisingly similar to Sakurako’s but with a dotted skirt and boots. Still not her style, really.

Shige, on the other had had, had given her a black pantsuit with a buttoned up white ruffled shirt and black flat shoes. “BORING!” Ryo had shouted.

Tegoshi had agreed loudly and brought on his choice… a short sailor pink skirt with a white tank-top with a purple rim and pink baby janes… so the guy liked high schoolers, Lara though raising an eyebrow.

“Getting better,” Ryo sentenced. This is getting better? She looked at Koyama through the mirror and she caught him looking at her legs. She blushed, though she didn’t know why, they were all looking at her. When he saw her looking at him he looked the other way.

Anyway, now it was Ryo’s turn and she was so not leaving the changing room.

“Let us see,” came Sakurako’s voice.

“It doesn’t fit,”

“Liar,” Ryo said. “Come out!”

They all started to echo the Ryo’s “come out” cry.

She came out trying to cover herself with the scant piece of cloth. It was a lace pink (again) dress. It had a halter top that showed way too much cleavage. She was afraid that is she moved she would fall out of the dress. The skirt came a few inches past her butt, showing a lot of leg.

“Now we are talking. That shows off that great rack, your legs, which are long for someone your size and now we can see you’re curvy.”

Koyama, and pretty much everybody else, was looking at her with wide eyes and dropped jaws. Sakurako stared at Ryo with a disgusted look.

“I know I have to look for a job,” Lara said, “but what kind of job are you thinking of Ryo?”

“Enough,” Koyama snapped. He got up a walked away.

Lara decided that the show she had already given the guys was enough. As she was changing a hand appeared holding clothes.

“Koyama Kun told me to give you this,” Sakurako said.

Not another one. She was already tired and the sweats and big t-shirt looked really good at the moment.

She put on the clothes and she came out still surprised. Koyama had chosen brown pats that were fitted but wider at the bottom. The bottoms were stylishly rolled up and let the tip of her black stilettos show. It was matched with a white v-neck t-shirt, which did show cleavage but just a hint. He had also chosen a coat. It was black and hugged her curves like a glove and it had the detail of a cream colored belt.

“Okay, I think we have a winner.”

They chose a couple more outfits, shoes and underwear, which, for the guys’ dismay, she chose with Sakurako.

Then they all went to a café.

“I swear I’ll pay you back as soon as I get a job.”

“Mmhh,” was Koyama’s only answer. She would have preferred someone else had paid for her clothes. She already owed Koyama for letting her stay in the apartment and the man clearly didn’t like her.

The waitress came and asked their order for deserts.

“Uhh, cheesecake! Oh, no, strawberry cake! Ah I don’t know!” Sakurako exclaimed in her usual flamboyant manner.

“Ooh, I love those too,” Shige said excited. “We could order both and share.”

“Sure!”

They did that and then Sakurako turned to the guys and said: “Well, tell me about you guys. What do you do? Are you married? Do you have girlfriends? Or boyfriends?”

“None of us have girlfriends.” Koyama answered.

“Hey, you have me. Yes, it is recent but it is meant to be and it’ll be,”

“Huh,” Tegoshi uttered confused.

“I checked and double check and all the signs are there. He’ll see. But I want to know about you.”

“Tegoshi had a girlfriend, but he broke up with her 4 months ago,” Massu provided.

“Oh, that’s so sad,” Sakurako said.

“I’m sorry to hear that,” Lara sympathized.

Tegoshi shrugged. “These things happen.”

“You still sound sad,” Lara ventured.

“My brake up has nothing to do with that,” and then he hurried to explain: “Not that I’m sad, I’m fine. I’m great.”

They had all noticed that Tegoshi was not fine and was not great. They had long noticed that on their friend but they all let it go when the waiter arrived with their order.

They ate their desert, Sakurako and Shige sharing theirs between murmurs of appreciation for the sweets.

As they were leaving the place a girl was about to come in. She had long wavy chocolate brown hair and big brown eyes framed by long lashes.

“Aimee?” Tegoshi asked.

“Y-yuya?” The girl asked back.

“What are you doing here?”

“I live here. I was transferred here four months ago.”

“You’ve been here for five months.” The girl nodded. Tegoshi kept staring at her like he thought she was a illusion and would disappear. The rest were looking at the girl, as well, and in amazement too but for a different reason.

“Why didn’t you call me?” Tegoshi asked.

“We never exchanged numbers, remember? I never thought I’d see you again.”

They kept staring at her, wondering when Tegoshi would notice.

“Oh, right, yeah. Well it was good to see…” At that moment Tegoshi rubbed the back of his neck and looked down and that’s when he noticed what his friends had seen: A small but definitely swollen belly of about, oh, four months, let’s say…

Hope you liked it and please tell me what you think!!
