Meet Seamus AKA BIKE PORN!

If you follow my facebook/tumblr/twitter you've probably already seen these.

I finally got my totally amazing bike. On Friday night. It's now Monday evening and I've got ~50 miles on him so far.

Seamus in all his silver + blue glory.

I'm digging these handlebars more than I expected. I thought they might make some hills difficult, but so far so good. (I'm riding in a fairly not hilly urban environment. Not up the side of mountains). Also this is the photo I snapped w/my phone when I test rode him.

The saddle isn't as comfy as my bigger, gel lined, comfort bike with shocks one. But it's getting more comfy the more I ride. I have really, really limited experience with saddles so I don't really know what I'm talking about other than what feels good.

I confess that I'm a sucker for wheels with just about any colors. I also think they help make the bike more visible to motorists. Giant Alloy, Double Wall rims, Vittoria Rubino, 700x25 tires.... so fast (at least compared to the aforementioned 'comfort' bike).

I'm riding single speed. It's a flip flop hub, so those inclined to ride fixed can do so. I like being lazy & coasting sometimes, though.

So Seamus is a Giant Chixie. Yes, it's a totally stupid name. Still a sweet bike. (Specs available @ that link for the bike geeks).

I knew I wanted a road bike, and was undecided on single speed vs. just a few gears. I knew I didn't want/need a ton of gears. I am SO happy with the single speed. It adds to the lightness of the bike: 19.6lbs. It really does feel easier to ride, even on hills when you'd expect gears to be beneficial. I don't see myself going back to geared bikes any time soon. As mentioned above, I think I'm a bit too lazy to go fixed, but I like that it's an option. (Because I could totally see myself getting bored one day and trying it out for fun).

I took one look @ this bike on the web site and fell pretty hard in love. Then I test rode it and it was all over for me. I had to have it. The fact it's pretty is just a bonus.

He rides really smooth and feels so fast and a bit aggressive. Despite the 'cafe' bars, I can still stand and climb a bit easily. (A concern one review I read had).

One of the features I didn't realize it had is the 'teeth' on the pedals. No need for toe clips, but they grip to your shoes nicely. (There's probably a real term for these).

I did get fitted for the bike, but almost immediately raised the seatpost a good inch because my (very short) legs felt like they were coming up to my chest.

So far I'm really enjoying the bike. The only downside is I know it's going to be a bike thief magnet and am paranoid about locking it up around town.
