A package tied with a string, will wonders never cease. I don't know if I'll finish it but I am starting The King's Grace by Easter Smith today. The reviews for her are all over the board but I thought I'd give one a whirl. Here I have two Du Maurier books tempting me but I'll try this one first - too many others are waiting their turn at the library.
It was lovely, like a step back in time. The vendor was Wellington Square Bookshop in Exton Pennsylvania. I keep hoping I can find another book to buy from them. Such antique courtesy to go along with a paper parcel tied with string.
I am in worse shape than you since I keep getting involved with these thousand page tomes. At least Du Maurier is short. The Smith book is about that bastard daughter of Edward, isn't it? Let me know how it is.
Best wishes to your feline family. Prudence slept at my feet all night last night like a Crusader's kitty. I swear she exudes a sleeping gas. When she shares my bed, I always oversleep.
So far, I am continuing with "A Game of Thrones". When I finish it, I shall take a break and read the new Richard book. Then on to the second book of the "Song of Ice and Fire" series. They are seriously good books which rattle right along with the plot getting murkier each step.
How is life moving for you? Have you managed to corral any energy yet? It is damned hard to keep your morale up whilst waiting for the axe to fall on your neck. The suspense alone would have me climbing the walls. Take care, my dear friend.
I love the Martin books -- they are among my all-time favorites. Be warned, though, that the latest book in the series is years overdue with no release date in sight, and we have been hanging off various cliffs for nearly a decade. So if that sort of thing is likely to drive you crazy, proceed with caution. (The fourth book came out in 2005, but that book was split in half, following only some of the characters, so some of those stories have been left in the balance since Book 3, which was published in 2000.)
I am glad you're enjoying them! I'm not at all surprised; I don't know why I didn't think to recommend them to you before. ;)
I am besotted with the first one. It is haunting me even when I am reading another book. Happily all the published four are available on Kindle so I do not have to wait to feed the addiction but can get the next as soon as I am ready for it.
"A Dance with Dragon" is slated to be published Sept. 29, 2009; we shall see if they meet the deadline. Amazon is offering pre-orders on it. From the commentary, I assume it is the second half of "A Feast for Crows".
Thus far, the book is reminding me strongly of "Dune" with the impending fate of Lord Eddard echoing the story of Duke Leto Atreides and the theme of young, untried rulers forced into authority before they are fully prepared being a strong element of the plot. Also the story of Dany, the peril from afar, seems familiar from the Herbert books. Ah, I am eager to see how this first plotting unravels. Jon Snow is my love so far. Heh! And Tyrion!
I trust that release date about as far as I can throw it. Amazon has given us dates for 2007 and 2008 in the past, but no luck -- by his own admission, Martin has alreeady missed several deadlines. When Martin announces that he's finished writing the thing, then maybe I'll let myself believe.
Interesting parallels you are drawing. For now, let's leave it at that. ;) Jon and Tyrion are among my favorites as well!
