James, you will hate me for saying this. As a painter, I believed that an artist must show his ability to draw and paint in the traditional manner before I would believe in his abstracts and not just think he was unable to do the hard stuff.
The same thing goes for poetry. Prove you can write sonnets and sestinas and ballades and rondels and villanelles then... and only then, are you permitted to do free verse.
I, too, wish you a teacher with a decent vocabulary. Did not know what a coup de grace was? Incroyable! I am glad you did not try her on 'misericordia'. Oh, my the way, there will be no need for obscure French verbs; English has the most lavish banquet of words in the world. You will find anything you need with a bit of searching. I will help if you need me. ;)
