looking for one that supports the following:

required:
- runs under windows xp, natively
- free
- metacontacts: one "bucket" for multiple accounts owned by the same physical person
  - if it's a plugin/extension like in the case of Miranda IM, i'd like step-by-step instructions on how to do it since the instructions ( Read more... )

in that Gaim 2.0 requires GTK libraries to run, but other than that has everything you want.

Nothing that I've heard of, unles GAIM maybe counts. I think Trillian must have the market cornered or something.

I think Gaim would be the closest, since you have to upgrade to Trillian pro for the Jabber support.

I would say http://www.meebo.com, but meebo is web based, and runs on everything, not just XP.
