Title: Descendants Author: kuonji Fandom: Due South, reference to Battlestar Galactica Characters: Benton Fraser, Ray Kowalski Pairings: Fraser/RayK Category: AU, character study Rating: R Words: ~3750 Summary: Fraser makes a discovery.
Got to say... weirdest story ever... but you made me believe it! Loved Ray's mood swings over the space of ten minutes, loved Fraser's mad uncle Tiberius (as always) Fraser's acknowledgement that he's a bit on the bonkers side himself, Ray being cheeky and altogether adorable, Fraser's literalism (which he's just learning to get over) and "You sleep with a Mountie, and you pay and pay and pay..."
"Get out." Two years ago, Fraser might have taken that literally and been confused or offended. Now he recognizes the utterance of disbelief, and he smiles at Ray's ridiculing and yet helplessly fascinated tone.
Not trying to nitpick here, because Fraser-voice can be hard, but I just happened to rewatch Victoria's Secret yesterday, and Fraser says "get out" very naturally in a conversation with his father. So it is part of his vocabulary!
And thanks for the catch. This is why I never feel quite comfortable writing Due South. It's so hard to remember what all the characters did for so many episodes and so long ago. I'll think of something to fix it, but in the meantime we will pretend that in this AU Fraser doesn't know that phrase. ;)
Please don't take it as discouragement, because I really do like your writing! And I myself discovered a bit of dialogue from Victoria in rewatching that might just wreck the premise of one of my WIP:s...so yeah, it can be hard to keep it all straight. : )
Thanks for enjoying. That's good to hear. :) Sorry about your WIP. *sigh, I know I'm always risking running into trouble with Due South; Wilby is so much easier!
