So recently LJ was banned in China! I was really dying from VM fic withdrawal, so thanks muchly
cynic_in_charge for letting me know about this little loophole. I don't have much time, but yes, I did get to meet Eve!

Going on a slight tanget here, I recently found out that Google and Yahoo made different versions of their search engines to comply with Chinese regulation, meaning there are some sites that will be blocked from those search engines. Of course, there are always loopholes (which is why I'm able to view LJ and post right now) if you know where to look for them.
If you want to check whether or not a site is banned in China, check out Great Firewall of China. I was just there two days ago, and now it's banned. Figures. :p

but i agree with you about the ways to get around anything banned. like at my school, they've got a school firewall to anything that isn't school related: myspace, hotmail, etc,
so then people discovered a new proxy thing to use (no idea what that is :P), but its like the teachers' secret code, so you can access all the sites. but then at the end of last year, i think they found out and you couldn't click on the options tab to change the settings. so then people put mozilla in the shared network drive of the school and everyone was happily going on myspace again. and THEN. THEN i tell you, the found out and mozilla wont open.
but now, we use opera :D
