What did you wind up thinking of it? I saw the anime on Anime Network and really liked it, although I've never played the game and wound up wondering if forming bonds with other players/characters is really just as important as winning fights in the actual video game. (I know so little about it that I don't even know if Persona 4 has a multi-player option.)
I had very mixed feelings about it in the end. I really liked it up until the Kanji episodes, and then after that I just found it dreadfully offensive and badly handled, which is a shame. It kinda just went downhill.
The game is awesome, I'd totally recommend it. :D Forming bonds for most characters is a totally optional endeavour, it does benefit you in battles (you'll probably wanna get the first few 'social link' levels, but you'll end up getting them without trying anyway), but it won't fuck up your game much if you don't.

It's definitely not multiplayer. :)
