I had fun with the multiplayer with the 2-day trial, though now it's over and I don't think I'll subscribe to X-Box Live Gold just for it. (I take it you guys were on the PS3?) It's basically a completely different game from the one I play in single-player, where I pop the tech wheel on and off constantly, whether to micromanage my teammates' skills or look at the radar. I think playing engineer was the best choice, because then I could have a Combat Bro of my own to get kills assists for me while I flailed around uselessly!

Your bar maxed will not get you the best ending. Basically, what determines ending is your fleet force * galactic readyness. If you got 7000 and you haven't done any multi that's 7000 * 50% = 3500.
I read somewhere you need somewhere between 4000 and 5000 to get the best ending, depending of certain choices. I have the game and play it on PC.
