i say you just take the cut bike chain and beat your parents senseless for their idiocy. when you're done, you could paint a nice picture on the patio door with a warning to the person who took the bike. return it within 24 hours, or you'll find them and add their shade of red to the picture.

would make for an interesting photograph, really.
