If you haven't read Kelley Armstrong's Women of the Underworld Series, I HIIIIGHLY recommend. 'Bitten' is a reeeeally fun read, but not for YA audiences. However, later in the series, there are kids involved in the storyline, too.
I'm just starting Women of the Underworld now! And am pleased to note that it's got the YA kind of easy readability I like despite not being YA. I was looking on her website and apparently they're in the same universe as her YA series, so that should be cool.
Yep. Her books always have very quick-witted characters in a world that actually makes sense. Vamps and wolves out in the open...I'm sorry...don't. Her writing's usually not gag-worthy over-flowery prose. It's fast-paced plotting, and things that are surprising but don't make you go 'HUH!?'
And I like the way both women and men are equally portrayed as equally flawed-yet-likable humans who have ZOMG! Superpowers, but it's more of a fact of life that more often than not and gets them into trouble more often than it's used as a plot device used to save the day. I'll have to look into 'The Summoning' after i finish Kathy Reichs' series.
