Another meeting, another fight about the arrangements and content of the upcoming album. Shortly, it had been just like any other day that week; full of arguments and disagreements. The pressure about the new album had taken its toll on them all, tiring their bodies and minds equally. Everyone wanted it to became something they'd never done before, something to really be proud of. Of course they all had their own opinions of how it should be like, this driving them to a fight after another.
Today's meeting had been a catastrophe. Each band member had stated their opinions and thoughts but none of them seemed to be good for the vocalist. He was known for his stubborn nature and how he liked things to go according to his plan and his plan alone. If something went wrong, he'd throw a fit, forcing others to bend under his will. He was able to compromise when needed but lately it seemed that nothing pleased him. Be it stress or something else that was causing it, it started to annoy the other members greatly.
It was only a matter of time when someone of them would snap, tell the vocalist exactly what they thought of him bossing them around as if they weren't as capable of making decisions nor as important part of the band.
So as him and Reita were walking down the corridor on their way to have a what-was-meant-to-be a relaxing smoke after the hard day, Ruki still talking about work and what he had planned for the album, Reita finally had it.
”Could you just shut up?!”
The sudden growl made Ruki freeze on his spot, widened eyes staring at the man in front of him, or more like his back since Ruki'd been walking a few steps behind the other man. Now Reita had stopped walking, shoulders shaking slightly as this fisted his hands in clear annoyance.
”Excuse me?”
”I'm so sick of you and your opinions!” Reita turned to face the vocalist and Ruki could see the anger burning deep in his dark eyes.
”W-wha-?”
”You think you're so much better than the rest of us, huh?!”
Shocked, Ruki stared his friend in the eye, not really sure of what had suddenly caused Reita to act this way. Swallowing hard, he tried to speak again, ”N-no, I don't. I-”.
”You fucking liar!”
Ruki got startled by the shout, taking a step back as Reita's angry glare seemed to drill right into his soul, making him feel more than uncomfortable.
”Reita, what's wro-?”
He never got the chance to finish up his question as Reita strode over to him, pushing him against the wall and causing his head to collide with the hard surface. Eyes clenching shut, Ruki hissed as the pain radiated through his skull, hand trying to rise and massage the back of his head but only got stopped by Reita as this grabbed his wrist.
”You're so full of yourself, Ruki, did you know that?” The other man growled from between his gritted teeth, the grasp on the vocalist's wrist strengthening its hold, causing Ruki to wince in pain.
”R-Reita, you're hurting me..”, Ruki tried to struggle away from the bassist and soon to his relief he could feel the hold on his wrist loosening. Quickly he pulled his arm out of Reita's reach, other hand coming to sooth away the pain as he lifted his scared eyes to look at the blonde. ”W-what's the matter with you?” He raised his voice, not being able hide the shakiness it held.
Downcasted eyes staring at his feet, Reita bit on his lower lip and Ruki could see his body trembling. Lifting his arm, Ruki tried place a hand on Reita's shoulder but just as his palm touched the other man's shirt, Reita raised his head and before Ruki could do anything, he found himself pinned against the wall, Reita's hand on his throath keeping him in place.
”All you care about is yourself”, Reita started in a low voice, eyes staring at somewhere between their bodies. Slowly lifting his gaze, he pressed a little harder on Ruki's throath, eyes lighting up at the horrified look on the other man's face. ”You live in your own little world. You don't give a shit about other people's problems as long as they don't disturb you.”
Ruki's hands grabbed a hold of Reita's lower arm and wrist, trying to pry away from his hold with no success as Reita strenghtened his grasp. Ruki had no chance of getting free and he knew it, Reita was that much stronger than he was. Tears springing to his eyes, Ruki tried to say something but no voice came out, only a whisper of despair indicating his agony and pain.
”You think that everyone loves you, that they admire you since you're a big rockstar. You think they envy your talents, that they'd love to be you.” The look in Reita's eyes softened from anger to something nearing pity as he continued: ”But guess what? They don't. They hate you. Everybody does. You know why?”
Ruki let out a sob, shaking his head, not really sure if he was answering Reita's question or just because he wanted him to stop before he'd break in his hands.
”'Cause you're full of shit!” Reita spat clearly enjoying the sight of the first teardrop as it started its journey down Ruki's right cheek. ”And you're so lost in your little fantasy that you can't even see the hated looks everyone's throwing at you.” Tilting his head, Reita lifted his other hand, forefinger stopping the lonely tear before it could fall from Ruki's jaw on his shirt. ”For once, just for once, they'd like to see you down on your knees before them, breaking down and to just beg.”
The strangled cry that left Ruki's trembling lips made a smirk rise to Reita's own, the almost evil spark in his eyes scaring Ruki even further as the bassist leaned forward, cheek against Ruki's blushed one.
”I wish they could all see now..”, the whisper against his ear caused Ruki to shiver, his whole body stiffening from the tone in Reita's voice. ”Underneath all that make-up, you're a nobody. You're nothing but a fake, Takanori.” Hearing his real name being used, more tears began to fall from his eyes as Ruki tried to hold back his sobbing, failing.
Slowly Reita pulled back, the hand on Ruki's throath releasing its hold causing Ruki to stumble down on the floor. A hand coming to his throath where he could still feel Reita's fingers on, Ruki inhaled a shaky breath, lungs filling with air only momentarily as he finally started to grumble down completely, his exhale being a loud cry that caused his body to tremble throughoutly.
Standing only a feet away, Reita watched as Ruki struggled to breathe, crouching on the floor on his bent knees as his hysterical crying echoed in the empty corridor.
”You're pathetic”, he spat at the man at his feet, seeing him visibly wince at the words.
Just as he was about to storm out, using the exit right before them, he could hear Ruki's trembling voice whisper: ”Don't you think that I don't know that..”
Turning his head, he watched as Ruki lifted his upper body from the floor, sitting with his back turned at the bassist before he continued. ”Don't you think that I don't know what people think about me..”, Reita could swear that he heard a hint of anger in the vocalist's voice. ”Don't you think I don't see the looks they give when they think I'm not looking or the words they whisper when I turn my back..”, a louder sob stopped Ruki's talk for a moment and he sniffled, wiping the tears from his eyes with the sleeve of his shirt.
Reita startled as Ruki's head suddenly turned, his piercing, watery eyes staring directly at his, leaving him frozen on his spot by the door.
”But I'm not gonna let them bring me down”, the vocalist swore, eyebrows knitted in determination. ”The more they'll try, the stronger I'll force myself to become. Even if it meant being cold on others. This is my way of coping!”
Silence greeted them as they just stared each other in the eye, one of the lightbulbs on the ceiling blinking, the flashes of light reflecting from their orbs. Neither of them really knowing what to say or do, they just stayed put until Reita lowered his gaze, head shaking lightly.
”You're not the kid I knew”, he said, disappointment clear in his voice.
”Well tough shit”, Ruki let out a laugh before turning his serious eyes back on the other man. ”The world changes and if we don't change as well, we're only gonna get stomped on.”
Reita huffed at Ruki's words, turning around as his hand reached for the doorknob. Just as he opened the door and was ready to walk out, Ruki spoke again, this time a little louder.
”This is no fucking dream, Akira! It's time for you to learn that.”
The words hitting him like a knife, Reita stopped at the doorway, hand on the doorknob slightly shaking. It was true. This was no dream. This was reality, something that you couldn't just run away from. But no matter how harsh this world that they lived in would be, Reita had always hoped to have at least one person by his side, unchanging and true.
”Guess I was just hoping for too much..”, he heaved a sigh, his voice merely a whisper as he finally took a step forward, slamming the door shut behind him and leaving the confused looking vocalist sitting alone on the floor.
