I do believe you were in another country for longer than 30 minutes. Victoria IS in Canada.

True... But the point was that I managed to ONLY spend 30 minutes in Canada.

Sounds like you guys had a fun trip. While I would normally opt for something warmer than Columbus, I imagine summer is about the best time to visit Alaska.

Was it mostly light or dark out this time of the year?

Mostly light - dawn was 5:30ish and dusk was 10:30+ish. In fact, it takes so long to get dark in July, that they get all of their 4th fireworks bonanza together on the night of the 3rd and let them off just after midnight on the 4th.
