To the complainers: let me add that no matter how much the government and people put in help, wouldn't the structure of Manila (both literal and social) will mean it will probably take a long, long time for the NCR to be fully fixed? There are still people helping victims in New Orleans, the storm is worse than Katrina was four years ago. So as much as the government, Red Cross, etc. do/have done, it won't be easy.
p.s. props to your bro, the volunteers & whoever else is helping.
p.p.s. but dude, does the National Weather Agency really not have a Doppler radar? (I read that on a blog post from the Enquirer that sounds like might be the source of your wrath...) If they do, then they tried, and the head of PAGASA is correct in saying that people "should watch the news and not just soap operas" (i.e. pay attention to disaster preparedness). If not, then getting a Doppler or five might help in the future. Just sayin'.
p.p.p.s. I read & followed links from the NY Times blog, which offered both sides of the argument. ...so yeah.
ETA: the structure of Manila (both literal and social) does indeed mean it will probably take a long, long time for the NCR to be fully fixed; you'd brought up that point and the fact that it's worse than Katrina in your last post... this is what I get for reading my flist backwards >_< my post was pointless in terms of putting forth any new logic lol.
LOL. It's okay, your comment was logical. This isn't a fantasy movie and we can't make it all better with the snap of a finger, those complainers need to remember that. And they waste so much time bitching about the situation instead of putting their energies to better use.
Exactly. There's only so much we can do and everyone also needs to help themselves. "Nasa Diyos ang awa, nasa tao ang gawa" sounds so empty and hollow to these complainers. Especially that woman who calls herself a journalist, Ellen Tordesillas. In her usual style, she spits venom at the administration even at this hour of crisis. It's back-breaking for me to go back and forth from the Philippine Consulate here in NY with boxes of stuff, but I'm doing it because I know that it's better for me to help than to bitch about a recovery process that will logically take forever. Those who complain keep expecting a magic wand to be waved for everything to get better, but it won't happen
( ... )
*snugs and applauds* Well said, darling. We had the same problem with Katrina victims, people whining and bitching about needing help, but not wanting to get off their asses and expecting someone else to do it for them. And I don't give a fuck what these idiots over here say. This is infinitely worse than Katrina. >__>
(and tell Cyril to be careful and that if anything happens to him, we're flying over so you can hold him down while I beat his as with my cane :P)
*hugs back* It's one thing to watch heartbreaking videos of what happened during the storm but to hear other people bitch so much about it instead of focusing their energies on what's REALLY important (which is to help the victims pick up the pieces of their lives as much as possible before the next storm comes) pisses me off beyond belief. We're stuck in a cycle of relying only on God, the government and every other person but ourselves. Our society has to grow up. God won't show mercy if all we do is sit on our hands and do nothing.
We haven't lost to the storms, we've lost to ourselves.
Thanks. It just got to the point where I felt really disgusted with the way some people cope with this and I feel bad for how my brother's busting his back and having to listen to these ingrates complain in his face.
