Do you mean a 50mm equivalent f/1.8? 50mm on a small sensor camera is a bit narrow for a general purpose lens.

I'm not sure I agree. Now, I'm not 100% on this because I don't have extensive experience, but I know my friend Vicki switched from her kit lens to the 50mm for her walk around.

Your 30 gives about the same kind of view of view that you'd get on a full-frame 50 and I find it not quite wide enough, but not quite narrow enough either. Truth be told, I'd be happier (I think) with a fast fifty and save up for an fast ultra-wide or fish-eye.

Yeah, I like the old Minoltas too, but Sony doesn't seem to be carrying the DSLR torch very well.

The irony of that statement is that Sony makes all the sensors that Nikon uses in their cameras, yet can't seem to make competitive cameras for those same sensors it manufactures. The world is sometimes very strange.

My camera pretty much died last weekend. I am sad.

I plan to buy an Digital SLR in November. We will sit and drink tea and bitch about cameras until I finally make a decision. We shall have a bloody party over it. It will be brilliant. So there.
