Fanart: Seahorses ~

Jun 14, 2011 17:17

Media: Fanart, some sketches, paper collage, short dialogue/story
Title:  Seahorses
Rating:  G
Spoilers:  a name was inspired by something Chris said in the "Glee Live" Klaine skit
Warnings:  Just my messy scribbling and some slightly anthropomorphic seahorse "porn", just kidding...

Summary: Seahorse males are unique in the animal kingdom because they carry the babies and give birth.  A trip to the aquarium leaves Blaine musing about fatherhood and the future...

Notes:  Since I no longer have a specific artist's tag, here is a list of other posts I've made just in case you're curious ~ http://pawndilene.livejournal.com/768.html

"Kurt, do you remember that time we went to the aquarium?"

"Of course.  I seem to recall sneaking off so we could find quiet places to cuddle--in front of fish."

"Well, yes.  I thought it was quite romantic, actually. But I was thinking of what we read about the
seahorses, and of all the kids we saw that day.  I had the most interesting dream..."

"Really?"

"We were in love..."

"Uh huh."

"I mean, like we are, but it was in the future.  I think we were married and starting a family..."

~Lullabies (whether it's Katy Perry, show tunes, or just a silly love song, Toronto's daddies have the most beautiful voices)

~By the Sea
"Don't worry, sweetie.  Daddy is just getting some more seawater for our sandcastle."

"Blaine, is this something you really dream about...having a family, with me?"

"I don't know...sometimes, I mean my father and I don't have the greatest relationship, and raising
a child, that's something you really, really don't want to screw up.  I'm not sure I trust myself to--"

"Blaine, honey, all kids get a little screwed up by their parents. It's nature's way.  Any child of ours would
eventually learn to live with my fabulous fashion sense and your public, um, enthusiasm...but you would be an
amazing dad, Blaine.  You do know that?"

"With your help Kurt, maybe someday."

"I love you so much."

scribbled attempts at some Kurt and Blaine seahorses (made during a stolen moment at work)

"Sea Horse: The Shyest Fish in the Sea"
~This beautiful non-fiction children's book about seahorses inspired me.  It would be a lovely addition to little Toronto's library.

And here are a couple of alternate versions of sketches with small paper details added:

(kind of hard to see, but that's supposed to be a tiny version of Kurt's "COURAGE" collage at the top of the mirror.  I also thought about spelling out "courage" with building blocks...just brainstorming)

(Kurt's bathing costume is embellished with a little Jonathan Adler seahorse insignia, and there's a small golden Dresden paper shell trimming on the castle.  I know Kurt's hair looks pretty crazy.  I guess it got all wet.  He'll probably smooth it off of his forehead in a minute~or maybe Blaine will take pleasure in doing it for him.  You wouldn't think he'd relish getting wet or sandy, but when it comes to fatherhood, I suppose you learn to go with the flow.)

Fathers' Day Gifts for the "Dapper Dad" /some design inspiration
I saw a Jonathan Adler ad that mentioned "dapper" dads and also felt inspired by his many seahorse items. I could picture Kurt and Blaine adding some of them to their home, maybe registering at Jonathan Adler for their baby shower.

I enjoy Jonathan Adler's designs, and I think he and his husband Simon Doonan are very cute and creative!

*Note: the Anderson lace crochet on the shower invitation is something I saw in a Victorian Trading Company catalog, the little boy with the umbrella is a porcelain Hummel figurine
