The voice was oddly familiar but he pulled his legs in without opening his eyes. A warm body clambered past him, legs brushing in the minimal space. He heard the man sigh as he slumped down into his seat, knocking into Kurt with a clumsy jerk of his arm.
“Sorry dude,” the man apologized.
It was tempting to snap at the man for knocking into him but he was still very much aware of the drooling creature sitting on his other side. If he wanted to keep well out of the way of its range he had to sit close to the clumsy man and that meant not getting into a fight with him.
“It’s okay,” he replied.
He opened his eyes, turning his head slightly to study his new seatmate. The man was tall and broad with a relaxed face. His dark brown hair was cut short and slightly spiky. A ragged looking navy blue sweater and worn out jeans adorned his frame. He was handsome in a sort of awkward looking way but it was a familiar crooked half-smile that managed to awaken the butterflies in his stomach. Oh god, oh god, oh god it couldn’t be him!!
Finn Hudson.
Amidst his internal panic, he didn’t notice that he was leaning back towards the man/creature he had originally been trying to avoid, until a head dropped onto his shoulder at least.
Kurt froze, eyes widening as he felt a small wet patch starting to form on his shoulder. Oh, oh no, that thing was drooling on him, drooling over his gorgeous new sweater. This was just not happening to him!
He shoved the man/creature off of his shoulder, not caring that he had startled it awake as he tugged the sweater off and stared down in dismay where the drool had started to soak through the material. There was a short burst of laughter from ‘Finn’ but he sobered up when a glare was sent his way. Still his chocolate eyes were crinkled in mirth, his lips twitching with the effort not to smile. It was that sight more than anything that appeared the smile to crop up upon Kurt’s own lips even as the man/creature next to him ranted at the nearest air hostess about the soprano’s treatment of him.
Maybe he had over-reacted just a little.
“Are you okay?” ‘Finn’ eventually managed to ask as he calmed down, still emitting breathy little chuckles as he smiled that endearing smile of his down at Kurt. Not that there was much of a height difference between them these days.

Summary: After a terrible crash, Kurt is left with permanent injuries. Blind in one eye, forced to use a cane, he could cope with all that just fine... if only he hadn't started hearing things too.

It sounded like the start of a supernaturally themed dramedy or romcom, and wasn’t that just disgusting appropriate? Up and coming diva gets t-boned by drunk driver, dies on the way to the hospital or on the operating table (oh god, did this mean he’d died?) and when the diva wakes up suddenly s/he can communicate with the dead or hear people’s thoughts. Cue either a cute and quirky romantic lead (enter stage left, Gerard Butler. Whenever you’re ready) and a series of hilarious misunderstanding or a series of psychic clues to a terrible and thrilling mystery.
The bare bones were there, but Hollywood never gave the audience a hero with a limp. The movies never showed you the months in hospital or the hero bursting into tears in front of attractive physical therapists, exhausted and wrecked when it finally hit home that he may never tap dance again. And in the movies the psychic flashes were supposed to be cohesive, to make sense.
The diva in the movies gets off with a couple of scrapes, a sexy co-star, and a set of psychic powers that would put Professor Charles Xavier to shame, adventure optional.
Kurt got nerve damage, schizophrenic psychic hallucinations and a severe reduction in peripheral vision.
“I want a sexy co-star,” he whispered under his breath.
How was it fair that he got all of the bad and none of the good? If his life was suddenly fraught with movie-calibre weirdness then why didn’t he get to have the hot romantic lead? Hell, he’d settle for the thrilling mystery if it meant that there was some kind of a point to it.
“Hun,” Mercedes’ voice pierced through the fog, “are you feeling ok? You don’t look too good.”
Kurt turned to look at his best friend. His face was whiter than a sheet, waxy against the tasteful off-white of his outfit. “Mercy,” he said, and privately wasn’t sure if he was saying her name or begging for compassion, “I don’t think I feel well.”
His face was turned away from the table, it’s other occupants all sitting square in his blind spot. He couldn’t see them - all six of them framed in nothingness on the wrong side of his head - but he could hear the concern in the sound of trays moving and fabric rustling. Suddenly he found himself standing, cane in hand, and large, warm hands helping him to stay without swaying.
Kurt tipped his head back and saw himself flanked by two of his favourite jocks. Red sentinels who looked at him with the same fond concern that Mercedes did. “Don’t worry,” Mike said, not to him, “we’ll get him to the nurse’s office.”
“I’ll come with you,” Mercedes said. She stood, immediately gathering up Kurt’s bag alongside her own.
“I’m ok,” Kurt said, his own voice sounding strange as colour washed out the cafeteria and turned his outfit powder blue. Concern, he figured. If it was real, if it was psychic schizophrenia, then blue was some kind of concern. “I’m just going to throw up. That’s all.”
Anything Else: Kurt's condition/powers - He doesn't get to hear people's thoughts or see ghosts. He gets to see washes of colour (usually blue, pink, or yellow), hear snippets of song, smell things that aren't there, and sometimes just know what a person is feeling. This is both useful and yet extremely frustrating, especially while he's still coping with the implications of his new physical impairments.

It sounded like the start of a supernaturally themed dramedy or romcom, and wasn’t that just disgusting appropriate? Up and coming diva gets t-boned by drunk driver, dies on the way to the hospital or on the operating table (oh god, did this mean he’d died?) and when the diva wakes up suddenly s/he can communicate with the dead or hear people’s thoughts. Cue either a cute and quirky romantic lead (enter stage left, Gerard Butler. Whenever you’re ready) and a series of hilarious misunderstanding or a series of psychic clues to a terrible and thrilling mystery.
The bare bones were there, but Hollywood never gave the audience a hero with a limp. The movies never showed you the months in hospital or the hero bursting into tears in front of attractive physical therapists, exhausted and wrecked when it finally hit home that he may never tap dance again. And in the movies the psychic flashes were supposed to be cohesive, to make sense.
The diva in the movies gets off with a couple of scrapes, a sexy co-star, and a set of psychic powers that would put Professor Charles Xavier to shame, adventure optional.
Kurt got nerve damage, schizophrenic psychic hallucinations and a severe reduction in peripheral vision.
“I want a sexy co-star,” he whispered under his breath.
How was it fair that he got all of the bad and none of the good? If his life was suddenly fraught with movie-calibre weirdness then why didn’t he get to have the hot romantic lead? Hell, he’d settle for the thrilling mystery if it meant that there was some kind of a point to it.
“Hun,” Mercedes’ voice pierced through the fog, “are you feeling ok? You don’t look too good.”
Kurt turned to look at his best friend. His face was whiter than a sheet, waxy against the tasteful off-white of his outfit. “Mercy,” he said, and privately wasn’t sure if he was saying her name or begging for compassion, “I don’t think I feel well.”
His face was turned away from the table, it’s other occupants all sitting square in his blind spot. He couldn’t see them - all six of them framed in nothingness on the wrong side of his head - but he could hear the concern in the sound of trays moving and fabric rustling. Suddenly he found himself standing, cane in hand, and large, warm hands helping him to stay without swaying.
Kurt tipped his head back and saw himself flanked by two of his favourite jocks. Red sentinels who looked at him with the same fond concern that Mercedes did. “Don’t worry,” Mike said, not to him, “we’ll get him to the nurse’s office.”
“I’ll come with you,” Mercedes said. She stood, immediately gathering up Kurt’s bag alongside her own.
“I’m ok,” Kurt said, his own voice sounding strange as colour washed out the cafeteria and turned his outfit powder blue. Concern, he figured. If it was real, if it was psychic schizophrenia, then blue was some kind of concern. “I’m just going to throw up. That’s all.”
Anything Else: Kurt's condition/powers - He doesn't get to hear people's thoughts or see ghosts. He gets to see washes of colour (usually blue, pink, or yellow), hear snippets of song, smell things that aren't there, and sometimes just know what a person is feeling. This is both useful and yet extremely frustrating, especially while he's still coping with the implications of his new physical impairments.
