Radishes

At least my radishes worked out. They're already full sized and ready to lift and they're better than any I've ever grown before.

Surprising in a way since I never had much success with radishes before.

I'm really behind on mowing and weeding, and it looks to be rainy this coming weekend too. And my weedwacker broke....

I haven't gotten the line trimmer started yet, either. Mowed the lawn last weekend, though. I'm in the process of fighting off the dandelions and moss. Later, grubs and more fertilizing. At least my flower bulbs are all planted and the new plants are in good shape, too. Lots of stuff that I put in last year came back this year much more vibrantly. The fact that you've got radishes ready to harvest just underscores the serious differences in regional weather. It's just been warm enough this last week to have things in the ground and free of frost danger.

Radishes are typically extremely fast. Last frost here is formally the 15th of April, but I think I put these in on the 9th. We've had some unsettled weather but not too bad, and the last week or so has been very steady 70 in the day and 50 at night, so the suckers just took off.

My asparagus looks like shit, but my strawberries are doing well. I'm hoping that the leaves don't provide a slug 'n' turtle canopy; I'm setting out slug bait anyway.

The yard looks like shit, but it always does. The mower I have is about Done from a human impatience perspective and I'm just on the verge of buying a new one. I don't want to, though.

Don't blame you for not wanting to buy a mower. Maybe buy a goat instead. You might be able to find a neighborhood kid to pay $15 a week or something. My folks pay a professional service $25 a week to cut the lawn in the summer, as a point of reference.

Frost date here is 2nd week of May, crazily enough. I just put the last of the things in the ground that I have space for this year. I'll have to post some pics later on. It's all flowers and stuff, though. Nothing I can eat. I'm too freaked out about those stray cats having contaminated the lawn and my mulch and whatnot with intestinal parasites. Cucumbers with toxocara isn't a summer recipe on my list. ;)
