Slight Improvement

Phoenix was slightly better tonight.  I went out to the farm a little earlier than usual to try and work with him, but the problem is when my horses see me they automatically think "dinner time", so Phoenix REFUSED to be caught because he wanted his grain.  I tried for a frustrating 30 mins to catch him before giving up and going to get their ( Read more... )

Those morons spooking your horses NEED TO GET A FUCKING LIFE!

But see, there was a properly good explanation for your horse's behavior and you weren't failing in their training at all. Hell, I think you deserve an award for taking two rescues after a 5 year break from riding and with no help on top of everything. And the crazy Arabians talk, I can sympathize with that. The way some people reacted when I said I often ride stallions during my lessons, you'd think I said I was riding a nuclear bomb. I ride Iberian horses btw, and they are often left intact and treated as any other gelding.

Good to know that Phoenix has calmed down and that Solana is making such great progress under your care! She's not as cute as Phoenix, but I'd still would kiss her velvet nose any time (if she'd let me get lose enough). She had such a sweet face, I would nver have guessed the abuse she's been through if you hadn't said anything. Just goes to show you how well those horses are doing under your care :)

It would be nice if the Rednecks would get a life. I will never understand the thrill of spooking horses with vehicles!

And thanks :) It's nice to hear I'm not completely inept! There is more than one occasion (especially with Solana) that I think I've bitten off more than I can chew with these two rescues. But, then I go out to the farm and they both nicker at me and come running to meet me at the gate and it just makes me smile.

I remember seeing your post on Equestrian a few weeks ago about a stallion and chuckled as everyone freaked out. It would be nice though if people would pay attention to how an individual behaves rather than sticking a stereotype to it. I'm so tired of hearing about the 'horrible high strung Arabians' from people who barely know the difference between a horse and a cow!

If you thought people were freaking out in Equestrian, you should have seen the uproar I caused in Chronicle of The Horse. I was asking for som advice in how to deal with a particularly pissy horse (not the one I'm planning to get, another lesson horse) and a bunch of people just went: ZOMG! USING STALLIONS AS LESSON HORSES?? YOU'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!!

For real. So I had to go and make my own thread about people freaking out about stallions. Mwahaha!

hahaha I bet that also got amusing to read! Most Americans let stallions get away with everything and don't teach them manners. There's a wonderful stallion at my dressage barn that is super well mannered and doesn't get crazy when around mares. So many people freak out over him, but honestly- it's just as simple as teaching him not to be stupid!
