Phoenix was perfect tonight! He lunged both directions walk/trot then trot/walk and stopped on a dime at whoa :D :D :D I was very pleased with him

Yay for making progress with Phoenix! I er, had a bit of a set back with my prospect horse. Halway through the lesson, he decided he didn't want to stop cantering so I spent a good deal of time trying to get him to listen to me and failing at it. But I did manage to stay on and eventually stop the little "bastard". I'm wondering if there will be a few falls in my future when I start riding sans trainer (assuming the guy who is supposed to be sharing the costs with me won't bail).
Solana looks like a tough case, which is not surprising considering she's been abused in the past. And it's also why i think putting her in a breeding program might not be the best idea either. You are talking about breeding an unbroke, unregistered mare in a market that is already overflowing with unwanted horses. Have you though about contacting a local rescue, to see if they can help you find someone who would be experienced enough to train her?
A horse that won't stop is never fun :( Breaks are kinda important! Are you def thinking about taking him on then since you have a leaser to help foot bills

Well, but this time I managed to stay on! Which is a major win for me! Because most of my falls were due to a horse getting a little hyper and me panicking and bouncing off the saddle as result. Staying on is GUD! haha! And yes, as long as I have another leaser to help with the bills I'm definitely making this boy mine :D
WTF? What kind of rescue requires a donation to take in a horse?? Something is definitely not right with that rescue. You should email Darla Clark from Strawberry Mountain Mustangs, she'd be sure to put in touch with a proper rescue in your area. This is her e-mail: darla@strawberrymountainmustangs.com
If you're having trouble finding a home for the foal Solana is already due, can you imagine finding homes for more? Even if you can get her papers, the horse market is in a serious crisis right now. Plenty of horses with successful show careers are ending up at the auction, so I see a grim future for the foals of a mare with no training at all.
Oh how exciting about your first horse though!!! I hope you post more pictures of him! He's so pretty :) Did you ever find out if his old injury is going to cause any soundness issues
