Lj Idol -- Topic 8: Reprobate

Dec 18, 2009 14:59

To all of you who called her a reprobate, who said that she was "beyond redemption" and someone who we should all avoid because she would be a "bad influence," I say a hearty FUCK YOU!

She is still one of my closest friends, and yea - she had a rough patch. She got into drinking, drugs, and rock 'n roll -- things that in your mind are evil and terrible and "not Christian at all."

I agree the drugs were a problem - they led to stealing from her parents, driving while intoxicated, and lots of other pretty poor decisions...but did you ever stop to think WHY she was going through these things?

It couldn't have been the fact that she had grown up in an ultra-conservative environment where things like dancing and women wearing pants were frowned upon. OR the fact that the topic of sex was always thwarted because of course, all of the people in your church were saving themselves for marriage and were as pure as the white dress they wore on their wedding day.

RIGHT.

It couldn't have been the fact that her parents were going through a rough patch and were talking seriously about getting a divorce. It couldn't have been a teenage cry for help because that is SUCH an uncommon thing for a fifteen year old girl.

So, instead of embracing her in love (like you preach and teach about) or trying to understand where this behavior was coming from, you decide to tell your daughters that they're not allowed to be friends with her anymore. You drive her and her family from your church (something you repeated over and over again through the years) and leave her to her own vices.

How was that the Christian thing to do? How can you READ the Bible and infer that THIS was the type of behavior that you should emulate?

Really?

Really?

REALLY???

So now that she has her life together - has settled down, is going back to school, has a steady job, is off the drugs, and has a son, you want to be fake when she's around and invite her to dinner or send her a Facebook message to see how she's doing?

You are so fake that you make me sick; and if you ask me who is beyond change and beyond redemption for their behavior, I'd say that that would be you.
