“Darn!!”
Seunghyun slapped his forehead when he studied the calendar. He was just going to make a note at his desk calendar for Sunday, the appointment at Jiyong’s botique with Jaejoong and Yoochun too, when he saw there was already a note there. ‘Meeting Dragon’. How could he forgot he was going to meet his penpal at Sunday? He hasn’t even called him yet!
Still with a towel on his wet hair, he took his phone and searched for a name he just stored in yesterday.
“Ah, here it is. My Dragon.”
Seunghyun called the number, for a minute considering if he should call later on since he remembered they were supposed to meet at Saturday but they had to delayed it to Sunday because the Dragon had work to do at Saturday. The tone ringed for a while, before he finally somebody picked up the call.
“Yoboseyo?”
The voice ringed a bell at Seunghyun’s brain, but he couldn’t grasp it, so he shrugged it off and before he replied the greeting, he put his hand in front of his mouth. He didn’t want the other to rembember his voice so easily. “Yoboseyo. Is this.. Dragonssi?”
Seunghyun heard a yelp from the other line, and it made him laughed secretly. This Dragon was too cute. “Yes,” came the answer. “Pimp?”
“It’s The Official Pimp, if you remember. Don’t just call me Pimp, you disrespect my nickname.”
The other laughed at this, and Seunghyun he was sure he had heard this laugh somewhere before. He fell in love instantly with this laugh. “Okay, I’m sorry, The Official Pimp,” the Dragon emphazised those three words and laughed again. “Can I just call you TOP? It’s more convinient and time saving.”
“Yes, of course you can.”
“Okay. You sound different from the last time, you know, at the radio.”
“Oh! Yes, I had.. I was having a cough that time,” he decided to lie, but got a shock when his friend answered with a, “You sound a lot better back then.”
“Uhh...” Seunghyun wasn’t able to reply. Dragon sounded worry when he asked Seunghyun if he offended him with his jokes. He said he wasn’t really good at joking, and often offended someone with his harsh words. But Seunghyun told him not to worry and that he was used to all kind of jokes. He can take it. Dragon laughed at this, and Seunghyun just hope he can make the other guy keep laughing, because he decided that’s what made him fall in love with him. Kind of reminded him with Jiyong.
“Wait, that wasn’t suppose to happen. Why did I suddenly thought about Yoochun’s cousin?” Seunghyun said to himself.
“So~, about Sunday..” he tried to get Jiyong off of his mind and concentrate on this guy speaking with him. The guy he was dying to meet.
“Ah! Actually I was waiting for your call to talk about Sunday!”
Seunghyun felt guilty when he heard this. He may just broke somebody’s heart by cancelling this meeting. Seunghyun wasn’t the type of person who breaks promises easily even though he looked like one. He’s a man of his words, and he feel really bad for forgetting his appointment with his penpal. “I’m sorry, Dragon, but.. I think.. I think we have to reschedule,” Seunghyun quickly said. He didn’t wan to hear the other man’s excitement just to make him more disappointed later. There was a long pause Seunghyun was afraid the Dragon hung up.
“Dragonssi?”
Fortunately, he was still there. “Ah, yes, TOPssi. Actually.. I was about to tell you the same thing. I think.. we need to reschedule. Something came up and it’s really really important-not that you’re not important-but I hope you understand. It’s a family matter.”
“Yes, yes of course I understand,” Seunghyun didn’t know if he had to feel disappointed or glad to hear that. He somehow was glad that Dragon had a sudden plan, but he too felt a little bit sour that Dragon kind of made him number 2. Well, not like he didn’t forget about the appointment with the other, so Seunghyun HAD TO understand. “That’s okay. I don’t know when actually I can be free, it’s going to be busy for me this week, but.. I’ll make sure we keep contact.”
“Ah, yes. I had a very full schedule too this week. So umm... well, I.. gotta go, TOPssi.”
Seunghyun wanted to groaned in disappointment hearing that. “Uh,, can I call you again soon?”
“Why don’t we just write to each other TOPssi? I find it more.. fun. And you haven’t even sent another picture of yours!”
“What? Hey, you think I was able to find you between that..what.. 100 kids? You think I’m a psychic??”
He heard the other man laughed again. And unconsciously he smiled hearing it. “Well, at least if you find me, you’ll be able to see my face. I-“ Seunghyun heard somebody behind his friend shouted and Jiyong yelled ‘yes, I’m coming, man!’ to them, before he was back on the line. “I really gotta go, TOPssi. It was nice talking to you.”
“But am I allowed to call-“
“Nope!!” Dragon answered without waiting for Seunghyun to finish his question. “And no text either! Just letters, except when we already decided when we’re gonna meet. Okay? Bye~”
“But, hey-“ Dragon already hung up. Seunghyun was freezed as he looked at his phone. This person is.. unbelievable. Did he just say he didn’t want Seunghyun to call or text him? He was a really weird person.
“Good morning, Seunghyun-aaaaaaaaaaah!!!!”
Seunghyun almost threw his phone when he heard someone yelling so close to him. He turned around to find his elder sister at his door frame, already wearing a one piece dress with flower pattern on it and had one of her hands on her hip, and the other waving at him.
“Noona, you scared me!”
“Do you know what time it is now, little brother? We’re going to be late, Umma’s called me so many time already!”
The man looked at the clock hanging on his wall, and swear, making his sister chuckled. “Come on, baby brother. I’ll wait you in the car.”
Seunghyun and his sister, Hyeyoon, lived together in an apartement a bit far from their parents house. It was more convinience to them because it was closer to where they were working, and they were more free here. Their parents was a bit conservative, especially their mother, and did not like to see her children coming home pass midnight. She still think of them as a five years old she needed to take care of everyday. But their work demand them to stay at the office over-night sometimes, and hearing their mother scold them everyday is kind of tiring. So they decided to move out, with the permission from their father who understands perfectly their working time, and also helped them pay rent for the apartement at first until they finally had enough money to buy it on their own. Now the apartement is theirs, but Seunghyun promised to buy his own apartment later, when he had someone he loved, or when his sister has already had someone she wanted to spend her life with. The sibling worked at the same building, just the different floor. While Seunghyun was trusted to lead his father’s wedding and event organizer company, shipping company, and some of the small supermarkets around Korea (one of them is in Daegu where he went last week), her sister was leading his father’s company of a cosmetic and perfumery brand. She was a chemistry student graduate, and master of business, and had her doctoral titel at fragrance science, so she knew well how to organize the said company. Hyeyoon and Seunghyun are very close, they’re the only children the Choi’s had, and their cousins are mostly a lot older or younger than they are. They came home every weekend, usually staying a night or two, but because of Jaejoong’s engagement party, this week they’ll only be able to stay for a night at their parent’s house and their mother was nagging already because they haven’t arrived yet.
“Umma and Appa are going to set me in an arranged marriage, did you know?” Hyeyoon asked Seunghyun while chewing her bagel. Seunghyun didn’t seem surprised hearing this, he knew this was going to happen. Her sister was a very dedicated person to her job, and she didn’t spend her time even the tiniest bit to find a boyfriend. She was so shy in front of boys, and never succeed any blind dates. She always refused everytime Seunghyun offered to introduce her to one of his friends, and in the age of 29, she hasn’t even had a plan to get married. Her parents are worried, it’s not easy to find a suitable guy when you’re such a stunningly beautiful lady who already had a doctoral title and a very success business. Don’t mention the income she got from the company, only another succesful businessman could match her. Their mother had talk to Seunghyun about this, asking about his sister’s boyfriends at first, and how she was afraid she didn’t like guys. His mother apologize for saying it like that but Seunghyun understood. They need a heir, and to get one her mother told him that she and his father was planning to set Hyeyoon on an arrange marriage.
“Did you agree?” he opened his mouth when Hyeyoon offered her a piece of bagel and she feed him.
“I wanted to say no, but if you see Umma’s face..” Hyeyoon frowned when she remembered how her Umma looked when she was told about the plan. It looks like she was beyond happy and was expecting a lot. “Well, there’s nothing wrong with trying it.”
“So why are you protesting?”
Seunghyun glanced at her sister who was now looking out of the window, a sad expression on her face. “I don’t now. I just.. I’m not sure this will work, you know?” Seunghyun stayed silent. “I believe everybody has their own mate, and.. I believe there is one for me too. It’s just.. not the time yet. But Umma and Appa are just so.. they really wanted me to marry soon, Seunghyun-ah,” she turned her attention back to Seunghyun. “I don’t want to disappoint them, but.. I just feel that this isn’t right.”
“What if he.. the person Umma and Appa picked for you.. what if he is the right one?” the younger man asked her without looking away from the street in front of him. He heard his sister sighed.
“I don’t know, baby brother.”
“Did they tell you who he is?”
Hyeyoon run a hand through her long black hair. “Son of Appa’s friend, he said. Said he was a.. designer or something. He was just like me, not interested in any girl that his father was afraid he’s gay. No offence, brother,” she quickly added her last sentence, afraid that she had hurt her brother. She knew he brother was gay. So does her parents. That’s why they wanted Hyeyoon to marry soon. They didn’t want both of their child liking the same sex. It was hard for them to accept Seunghyun’s sexuality at first, especially his father. Seunghyun was the only son he had, and he was supposed to inherit his father’s name and pass it to his child. But by liking the same sex, it means he won’t be able to have child of his own, and the glory of Choi Sangwoon will end. But Hyeyoon, Seunghyun’s guardian angel, as always, found a way out. She promised her father that if she got married and had a child, she’ll make her husband agree that her child will carry his mother’s name, that is, Choi.
“I’m sorry, Noona,” Seunghyun felt guilty. His sister looked at him and asked him why. “Noona.. if I wasn’t.. different..”
“Hey, Seunghyun-ah..” Hyeyoon reached out and took one of her brother’s hand and held it tight. Seunghyun looked at her for a while, before returning his eyes to look at the road. “It’s not your fault. You have no wrong here. It’s not like you choose to be like this, baby,” she soothed his brother who looked like he was going to cry. “You know what, I really don’t mind, really. I know I gotta settle down sooner or later, I’m 29 for God’s sake! But he better be hot!”
Seunghyun didn’t know how to react to this. He just smiled back at her sister, thanking any God up there who gave this angel as his sister.
