The rest of the night was a blur to Seunghyun. He couldn’t even focus on any of the conversation, and he didn’t feel like eating the food in front of him, even though it was made by a five-star chef. This whole thing, he still couldn’t grasp it. Mrs. Kwon recognized him as the wedding planner for Jaejoong’s party, and Jiyong had to tell her that he did knew Seunghyun. What was worse was when he looked at Hyeyoon, she looked like a whole different person. She was looking at Jiyong with the biggest genuine smile he ever saw her sister put on her face. Hyeyoon was usually shy in front of guys, but with Jiyong it looks like they get along well. Was it because Jiyong’s personality, or his sister was always this easy to approach? He wasn’t sure what to call it, but he knew her sister fell in love instantly with this blonde haired young man in front of them. It’s like Hyeyoon could hear his questions, she turned to Seunghyun and reached to squeeze his hand. She leaned closer to Seunghyun and whispered, “You won’t believe this, but I think I fell in love with him,” and Seunghyun would never ever in his life imagined he would hear her sister saying something like that. Seunghyun decided he couldn’t take it anymore, and he excused himself.
He pulled out a ciggarete from his pocket, and leaned his back at the railing on the top floor of the hotel. He lit it up and inhaled it before puffing the smoke in one long breath. He pulled out the paper that contained Dragon’s lyrics and looked at it. He was confused. He thought he was falling for his penpal for 6 month, and he can’t wait to meet him. But then he met Jiyong, who made him experience the same feeling he once felt for Jaejoong, only much stronger this time. The younger man became the reason he smiled, became the reason he laughed, and for once, he felt like maybe, maybe this was love and maybe this would work. But things like this just have to happen, right? Things like, the person you love happen to be your sister's future husband. But even though he feels guilty because the feeling he had for Jiyong was more.. real.., but he still had to admit he had feelings for whoever this Dragon is. If he was falling for Jiyong, why does he had this same strong feeling about this Dragon? He had asked what Dragon has been questioning since a long time ago, since he met Jiyong. Is it possible to love two person at once? Seunghyun closed his eyes and took another breath of his smoke, when he heard a small voice calling him.
“Ji-Jiyong?” Seunghyun hurriedly put back the paper to his pocket. He wished Jiyong didn’t see it. He smiled and waved at Jiyong. Jiyong take that as a permission to come closer, so he approached Seunghyun and stood beside him, mirroring Seunghyun with his back leaning on the railing. “What are you doing out here?”
“What are you doing out here? It’s freezing,” Jiyong shivered. Seunghyun didn’t have any coat to offer, so he offered his ciggarete.
“You smoke?”
Jiyong laughed as he took one and slipped it between his lips. He waited for Seunghyun to light up the stick. They smoked in silence fo a while, enjoying each others presence. Seunghyun didn’t know that silence could be so comfortable.
“How did it go?” The taller man decided to break the silence. "The wedding is all set?”
“The wedding was all set the moment my mother told me she was going to arrange my marriage,” Jiyong didn’t want to make an impression that he didn’t like Seunghyun’s sister, so he added, “But your sister is amazing,” Jiyong turned to his side so now he was facing Seunghyun. Something tugged at Seunghyun’s heart, he wasn’t sure he wanted this conversation with Jiyong. “She is so smart, I swear I never heard anyone had her doctoral title at 29. So young!!!”
“Psshh, yeah,” Seunghyun snorted. “That’s why she’s still single at 29. She set a pretty high standart for her match. I was hoping she got a better person than you.” Seunghyun regretted what he just said when Jiyong let out a sad laugh, agreeing what Seunghyun just said and looked down. “Hey,” Seunghyun said softly. “I didn’t mean it like that.”
Jiyong shook his head and looked at Seunghyun. “With all due respect, I really like your sister. But.. I actually do this.. just for my parents. They really wanted me to.. settle down and marry a fine lady someday,” Jiyong smoked his cig and shifted his gaze to the city lights.
“Why didn’t you?” Seunghyun asked. A light of hope shone, and Seunghyun didn’t know if it’s right to have this kind of feeling. Her siter and him was always sacrificing them selves for the other, and for once, Seunghyun didn’t feel like doing it. For once, he wanted to have something, and it was Jiyong. His sister’s fiancee. He thought Jiyong looked really beautiful that night. He really glowed, even the city lights couldn’t beat his beauty. “You gay or something?”
“Or something,” Jiyong answered without hesitating. At Seunghyun’s confused expression, Jiyong continued, “Have you ever heard the word.. asexual, Hyung?”
The only thing that went through his mind at the word asexual was the Dragon, he remembered him saying he’s asexual, as in “..not having any sexual or romantic attraction to either male or female?”
Jiyong nodded and smiled. Somehow his smile never reached his eyes. “I thought at first.. I was uncured. I thought I was never going to feel any sexual or romantic attraction to anybody, but..”
But was always nerve wrecking. It wasn’t an end of a phrase, and Seunghyun did not like that the phrase he just heard ended with a but. He was not sure of how to feel, if he should be hoping for something more, or if he should feel like Jiyong just crushed his hope because he had someone he love.
“..but I never thought I will experience it through a letter. Through letters.”
“Letters?” The answer was surprising. Now Seunghyun was scared. He was sure he won’t like what Jiyong was about to tell him. He had a bad feeling since morning, and he felt it stronger now.
Jiyong took something out of his back pocket. It was an envelope. And Seunghyun almost couldn’t breath. He recognized that envelope. “I’ve been.. I don’t even know why I’m telling you this,” Jiyong glanced at Seunghyun, before turning back to the envelope and pulled a paper from inside the envelope. “I always bring at least one of this letters with me, because.. it became like.. well except when you were there, I never actually think of anything else except work if not because of this letter. Reading this letters helped me slow down and enjoy things more. I started writing with this guy for like 6 months, and..”
Seunghyun cannot process what Jiyong was saying. He didn't even realize the 'except when you were there' part. His brain just shutted down and he was looking blankly at Jiyong. The envelope, the letter, the handwriting.. Jiyong didn’t show him any of the pictures Seunghyun sent to him, it would be too troublesome to carry around, but Seunghyun remember he wrote every word from the letter Jiyong was reading him. This is his Dragon. So this is why Seunghyun always felt Dragon and Jiyong resembled each other. That was why he always thought Jiyong was like the interpretation of Dragon. Because he is Dragon. Jiyong and Dragon is the same person. This is the person he had been dying to meet. This is the Dragon who made him thought he finally felt what love was. This is the Dragon.. who his sister also fell in love with. He didn’t know why life was so unfair to him. His sister just fell in love with a man after so many years, and it happened to be the person he also fell in love with.
“..his childhood picture!! I can’t believe he.. Seunghyunnie Hyung?” Jiyong stopped his rambling about his penpal when he saw Seunghyun was clutching his chest with one of his hand and the other holding the railing so hard that his knuckles turned white. Hyung! Are you okay??” Jiyong stepped forward and touched Seunghyun’s upper arm, but quickly took a few step back when Seunghyun slapped his hand away. “Se-Seunghyun Hyung?”
Seunghyun didn’t answer him. He turned around and walked away from his spot as fast as he could. He couldn’t let Jiyong know. He couldn’t let Jiyong know he was the person he was writing to. Not when his sister finally found someone suitable for her and above it all, she loved him instantly. He decided to go straight to his car and locked himself in there. Why is this happening to him? Seunghyun leaned his head on the steering wheel, let out a heavy sigh. He wanted to cry, he wanted to scream, but most of all, he wanted this all to be just a dream. He wished that this was all just a dream, that Jiyong wasn’t Dragon, that Jiyong wasn’t the one in an arrange marriage with Hyeyoon, that Hyeyoon did not just say she loved Jiyong. Seunghyun closed his eyes, and hoped when he opened it, he’ll forget all of this, because it was all just a dream.
