IC:

Character name: Raidou Kuzunoha the XIV (Actual name: Jouhei. Last name not given)
Fandom: Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2 Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon
Timeline: Post-Game
Age: Not stated (In the first game he was supposed to be 17. It’s assumed he’s probably 20 by now, but the hint at this has been rumored to simply be a fourth-wall hint that Devil Summoner 2 was released three years after the first Devil Summoner made by a certain fourth-wall breaking demon within the game. Hm… we’ll just say he’s early twenties like 20-21)

~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths:
Raidou is a summoner; a Devil Summoner to be exact and Raidou isn’t actually his name, but a title passed down once a summoner of the Kuzunoha Clan completes his training.

(The Kuzunoha Clan is a very expansive family who all master the art of Devil Summoning to protect their respective territories throughout Japan. There are four great family branches, Raidou being one while the other three are Geirin, Kyouji, and a final, unknown branch. In order to summon demons, the families form contracts with the demons and seal them within special tubes called ‘kuda’ that only open when the right incantation is uttered by the sealer.)

Anyway, passing that note, Raidou knows the art of summoning demons to help him with his duty which is to protect the Capital of Japan from the supernatural world known as the Dark Realm. The Dark Realm lies exactly parallel of the real world and occasionally, demons from the Dark Realm like to cause trouble. They're invisible to the untrained eye which makes him all the more needed.

Before his journey begins in Devil Summoner 2, Gouto grants Raidou the ability to summon two demons to aid him in battle instead of one. This ability has probably expanded after the game, but we’ll leave him to a limit of two demons at a time.

Besides summoning, his skills with a katana are almost unmatched (he can block bullets for god’s sakes) and his aim with his trusty revolver is nothing to laugh at. With special forging, Raidou has the ability to fuse his katana with special metals given by demons which infuse special attacks. Some of these special attacks even change the outer appearance of the katana into a spear or axe at the cost MAG or Magnetite. Think of MAG like Magic Points in other games. MAG is spent whenever he uses a special sword attack, uses a combination ability with a demon, or simply when he summons a demon. He recovers MAG by successfully defeating an opponent, attacking an enemy that's stunned, or simply by resting to recover health.

There are also special, passive abilities he can use outside of battle with the aid of certain demons such as transformation to help him on cases. Yes, besides being a Devil Summoner, he's also a detective. He seriously does too much for a kid his age.

How would they use their abilities?: To uphold his responsibility as a Devil Summoner. Basically, he'll help out others no matter his alignment. No, seriously, even while this guy is Chaos aligned, he’ll just be a Jerk With a Heart of Gold when he helps out.

Appearance: Raidou stands at 175 cm and has a pretty average looking build, but that’s misleading. While he doesn’t have super strength, he is capable of punching out Yakuza members and he fights demons on a daily basis that could easily rip him to shreds were he inexperienced.

His black hair is professionally kept short except for the two jagged sideburns on each side of his face and he’s never seen without his signature black hat (I mean never. He goes into a bathhouse naked, but he still wears the damn hat). His skin is a healthy pale like most Japanese people and his eyes are a steely gray, sharp and usually never found blinking (except obviously when he involuntarily has to).

He typically wears a black Gakuran or Japanese school uniform (specifically for his alma mater Yumizuki High School), black shoes, and a crème-colored belt which holds his gun’s holster and his sword’s sheath. Over the chest of his uniform is a special vest made to hold the kudas that contain his contracted demons. All of this bizarre work attire is covered by a black cloak with a high collar and dark purple inside.

Background: It’s the late Taisho era (1920s) in Japan. A young student from Yumizuki High School by the name of Jouhei is taking his final trial to become a full-fledged Devil Summoner and earn the title of Raidou Kuzunoha the XIV. With the trial’s completion, he gains a small guide/helper in the form of a black cat named Gouto. Gouto is able to talk, but only Devil Summoners can hear him. The Herald of Yatagarasu stations Raidou in Tsukudo-Cho, a city in the Capital of Tokyo. It’s there he meets Shouhei Narumi, the owner of the Narumi Detective Agency and a liaison with Yatagarasu who knows about the Dark Realm and demons, but he can't see them personally.

(Yatagarasu is a three-legged crow in Japanese mythology that is said to serve Amaterasu. Those of the Kuzunoha Clan receive their orders from the Herald of Yatagarasu, a mysterious woman garbed in black that summons them to the Nameless Shrine far in Shinoda when trouble arises. She is also the one capable of sending the Kuzunohas into the Dark Realm.)

It’s just another day when he actually takes a mission not related to his regular Summoner duties where he finds himself embroiled in a new case. The case requestor, a girl by the name of Kaya Daidouji, asks him and Narumi to meet her on the bridge in Tsukudo-cho at night. There, she asks them to kill her. Unfortunately, during their time of hesitance, they’re attacked by men in red and Kaya is kidnapped. As Raidou and Gouto go further into the case, they find out that Kaya has actually been taken for a caper much more sinister than simply demons causing trouble. Munakata, the leader of the Japanese Military, has use of Kaya since she’s supposedly possessed by a strong demon. With this demon's aid, Munakata was planning to make Japan a world power by creating a Soulless Army.

This gets turned on its head when Raidou and Gouto find out that Munakata is actually the one possessed by a nasty parasite demon named Sukuna-Hikona and the creature possessing Kaya is actually the mastermind behind the Soulless Army, seeking to actually revive the Soulless Gods to change history. This creature keeps possession over Kaya and disappears into the Dark Realm, leaving Raidou to deal with the first Soulless God, Oumagatsu. Raidou defeats Oumagatsu by sending one of his demons up in a rocket to a satellite powering the oversized god. Gouto goes with the demon to guide it and both perish when the satellite explodes.

For a short time, Raidou grieves over the loss, but Gouto’s voice comes back to remind him he has a job to finish. Venturing out with the demons he has left, Raidou enters another version of his world and meets the Raido and Goto who protect it (yes, there are so many parallel worlds in this game, I don’t even know anymore). With otherworld Raido’s help, Raidou is able to enter the Akarana Corridors. In the Akarana Corridors, different points in time can be viewed, but Raidou isn’t there for the sightseeing.

He chases down Kaya and discovers the one possessing her is actually one of his future descendants trying to change history (so in other words, it is a future Raidou Kuzunoha). It’s a fierce battle between Raidou and the future Raidou who has summoned another Soulless God to aid him, but Raidou triumphs, separating Kaya and the future Raidou as the Akarana Corridors collapse. Raidou and Kaya are sent back home to the late-Taisho Tsukudo-Cho. As Devil Summoner one closes, a crow is seen watching over Raidou as he heads off on a new case and follows after him shortly.

(Note: The crow is assumed to be Gouto. There will be an explanation why Gouto is still alive in the next paragraph)

Three years pass and Raidou is back in the Training Hall where he took his final exam, surprised to meet Gouto again (since he was blown up in the last game). It’s here Gouto explains that his name is not actually Gouto, but Raidou. Gouto is the very first Raidou Kuzunoha who has been punished by the curse of Gouto-Douji for breaking a serious Kuzunoha Clan law. Under the Gouto-Douji curse, Gouto is unable to pass on and must look after each heir of the Raidou Kuzunoha branch, helping them protect the Capital until they pass on. It’s very sobering to Raidou and he welcomes his great ancestor back to help him.

Both Raidou and Gouto return to the Narumi Detective Agency to, once again, work as detectives and protect the Capital from demons. It seems to be a common thing, but Raidou again receives a mission outside of his orders from the Herald that ends up becoming quite threatening to the Captial itself. A young woman named Akane has come from a village outside of the Capital to request Narumi and Raidou to find her brother, Dahn. It turns out Dahn has stolen insects call Luck Locusts that, as name says, feed on the Luck of people and collect it in their bodies. Being attacked by a Luck Locust leaves a person with irreversible bad luck (and they will most likely die) while the holder of the Locust becomes extremely lucky. Dahn has taken the Luck Locusts and let them loose on the Capital for his own devious reasons, but overall, just to save his sister, Akane, from a ritual where she is to be wedded to the Tento Lords in their home village of Tsukigata.

(Tsukigata Village: A village removed far from the capital and ruled by the Tsukigata Clan. The Clan works with the Tento Lords, giving their daughters to the Lords in trade to use their bugs for assassinations. Yes, the Tsukigata Clan is a family of Assassins that use bugs. Akane and Dahn are the daughter and son of the recent head of the family.

Tento Lords: They are a race of mutants that live in the mountains around Tsukigata, driven there by the humans years ago. They look like humanoid bugs and have learned to create and control insects, using them to terrorize the village. To end this, the Tsukigata Clan arranged to give the Tento Lords their daughters to protect the village in exchange to use their insects. It’s to note that the Tento Lords are… only a male race and require a human female to keep their species alive. Akane is supposed to be their next 'bride'.)

Venturing to the Tsukigata Village, Raidou and Gouto meet Geirin Kuzunoha the XVII and his young summoner-in-training, Nagi. Geirin is a strict old summoner (61) and tries to get Raidou to return to his place in the Capital, but as the situation gets worse, he has to look into the matter himself (he dies later in the game though due to Tuberculosis while trying to help). Very soon, the Luck in the Capital hits an all time low; Dahn takes the oppotunity to use the luck he's collected to summon the Apollyons in order to control them and end the contract between the Tento Lords and the Tsukigata Clan. However, the Apollyons don’t obey Dahn and wreak havoc on the Captial, prompting Raidou to return and forge a katana capable of striking down the creatures.

(Apollyons: Massive black insects that look like crickets. They can create saw blades out of their face, powerful winds with their wings, and devastate a large radius with their jumps. Apollyons heal much too fast to be killed easily and a special ore is required to interrupt their healing capabilities. They only serve King Abaddon who is known also as Shinado.

Shinado: A strange entity that wears a mask and often appears before Raidou in different forms. The people of Tsukigata worship Shinado, at least, the angry aspect. See, Shinado has two aspects; one being anger and the other being hope. When the Apollyons attack the Capital and Raidou seals of the gate {called the Abysmal Gate} they’re coming through, the angry Shinado is able to infiltrate the minds of humanity and make them believe there was no future. From there, he was going to bring about the end of the world. Obviously, this needs correction.)

After gaining the ore and forging the needed katana, Raidou confronts and contracts the aid of the great dragon Kohryu to reach the Abysmal Gate and enter Abaddon the Infinite Abyss to confront King Abaddon Shinado. Through several grueling battles, Raidou and his demons are able to stop Shinado and return peace to the Capital and Tsukigata Village. Raidou returns to the Capital with Gouto while Nagi, still seeking to become Geirin Kuzunoha the XVIII, remains in Tsukigata Village to complete her training and to better herself as a Summoner.

Personality: It’s hard to describe Raidou’s personality because he rarely shows his emotions. He’s a serious young man since his duty is important and summoners are spread out, ordered to protect their designated areas (unless it bleeds over into another territory in the case of Devil Summoner 2).

Though, it seems as though he’s not all serious, but he lacks social skills. In a manga shortly following Devil Summoner 2, Raidou watches over Nagi when she takes on a test given to her by another summoner (outside of the Kuzunoha family). Upon completion, she asks Raidou to praise her like her late mentor did. Of course, Raidou misinterprets this and gives her a pat on the head and a small smile. She becomes flustered and says that’s incorrect, but Raidou doesn’t understand at all.

Most likely, with the responsibility of becoming the next Raidou Kuzunoha, he was trained solely to investigate, interrogate, fight, and summon. All of this took place in the secluded Kuzunoha Village before he joined others in society so he barely has any social skills. Raidou can be good with people; it’s just that he can be very blunt or misinterpret very simple things such as said praise giving above.

Raidou’s personality lies more in his actions. He strives to protect the Capital and the people that inhabit it, laying his life on the line day in and out dealing with both human criminals and the demons that attack and/or kidnap people into the Dark Realm. If someone asks for his help, he’ll help even if it gets him into more trouble than it’s worth later. As for friends or loved ones, he goes the extra mile. In the manga, when Nagi’s test gets out of hand the first time, he steps in and gets severely injured protecting her. Of course, he cared very little about his injuries as long as she was fine. As said before, he’s just a really nice guy whose actions speak much louder than his words.

Why should that character be in this game: For OCs only.

For applicants considering an alternate version of a character already in game, please use this as your chance to explain the key differences between your character and the one already in play:

Have you read up on how the game works?: Yessir! The Guide Plugin is called the FlamingFerret. Money is called Credits! Credits are earned by hard work, freelancing, stealing, or mooching! Vogons have no imagination and cannot write poetry! Also, nobody knows why the bowl of petunias thought ‘Oh no, not again’.

1st person sample:
[When the guide starts, the steely grey eyes of Raidou are looking into the camera. He... doesn't know how this works at all, but his expression doesn't give that away very easily. He just seems to be examining it, disappearing as he flips it over. It's recording his shoes, the bottom of his cape... and a cat whose green eyes are peering up at Raidou]

... Oh.

[The video is back on Raidou. He doesn't seem so perplexed anymore]

... Narumi, if you're here could you call me back. Huh?

[He glances away; maybe he's looking at the cat]

Ah, yes. [His attention is back] I'm Raidou Kuzunoha the XIV. If you see a man named Narumi, contact me immediately if you don't mind. Thank you.

[Sighs] Maybe he's looking for some coffee... [The feed goes out]

3rd person sample:
Calm breath, in and out. Relax... think... concentrate...

".. dou."

Wait for them to strike... focus on their movements and find their opening.

"Raidou..."

He let a stream of breath out, his eyes still closed, but he was knocked over to his side suddenly. Blinking, he tipped his hat back, locking eyes with Gouto. The old cat let out a snort, "Raidou, pay attention when I'm talking to you."

Raidou pushed himself up, waiting the cat as he moved away and proceeded to cleaning his face. Raidou just stared, waiting for Gouto to finish, "... Oh, you're going to listen now?"

"Yes."

"Hmph. Sure you are," Gouto snorted, smirking, but that only stayed for a second, "It's time to get to work unless you have anymore meditation exercises..."

"No, I'll get ready..." Rising to his feet, Raidou straightened his jacket and hair before seizing his hat and placing it on his head. His katana easily slipped into his belt and his gun was quickly slipped into its holster. He whipped his cape off his chair, strolling over to the door and opened it. Gouto hoped out first, ears flicking as Raidou's cape billowed, coming down around his shoulders. The tie was easily knotted; he checked his vests for his kudas. All demons present and accounted for.

"Ten seconds. Not bad. Tomorrow, it better be five seconds," Gouto said. Raidou nodded and closed the door behind him. The sun was high in the sky, people were walking down the street quickly, and the sounds of car engines rumbled in the distance... Yes, just another day in Tsukudo-Cho.

Questions?: Can he have Gouto with him? I don't know if anyone else really plays him, but if someone wants to join as him at a later date, they can. Also, how many demons can he have? At the end of the second game, he could easily end up with over 20 kudas. (When he finishes leveling, he can have 20 kudas, but he can get 17 more by ranking up his Summoner Title and get 3 more from case files, ending up with 40 total.) Last question; demons in the Devil Summoner series are invisible to the untrained eye. Should I post a permissions about this?

Did you put your characters name and fandom in the subject: Yes!
